Free-spirited Chloe lives life on the edge. Unlike her soon-to-be married sisters, she isn't ready to settle into a quiet life running their family's newly renovated inn. But soon her love of trouble--and trouble with love-draws the attention of the very stern, very sexy sheriff who'd like nothing better than to tame her wild ways.
Suddenly Chloe can't take a misstep without the sheriff hot on her heels. His rugged swagger and his enigmatic smile are enough to make a girl beg to be handcuffed. For the first time, instead of avoiding the law, Chloe dreams of surrender. Can this rebel find a way to keep the peace with the straitlaced sheriff? Or will Chloe's colorful past keep her from a love that lasts . . . and the safe haven she truly wants in a town called Lucky Harbor?
Review: I'm a HUGE contemporary romance fan, so I was really excited when I figured out I could be a part of this blog tour. I had not, however, read any of Jill Shalvis's previous books. Well, after reading this one, I know I'm going to be picking up more of them! Head Over Heels was such a cute read and the characters' relationships in the book were even cuter.
What made this book stand out from all of the other contemporary romances was Chloe's character. Chloe had asthma, so to make up for her physical limitations, Chloe was a hard-headed, strong-willed woman who did as she pleased. I liked reading about her strong character who still was able to show a little soft side when it came to Sawyer. I really liked Sawyer's very manly character, but his past was kind of cliche (you know, the whole rebel child becomes big, bad cop). Other than that, it was so cute watching these two non-emotional people fall for each other. The added mystery/crime aspect wasn't a bad touch either.
A problem I had with the plot was that since I have not read any of the author's past books, I found myself wishing I knew more about the other characters' stories. This book is the third in it's series, so Chloe's two sisters had already found their men and fallen in love, so their relationships weren't really explained, but I guess that's just my fault for not reading the first books. Also, I didn't like how Sawyer and Chloe had already met before this book, so it seems as if their attraction had built before this story started, causing me to feel like I was missing something. I would say that I'm to blame for this problem because that's typically how a series works. So if you're interested in picking this book up, which you should, I'd recommend starting at the beginning of the series if you really want to know each character and get the most out of these heart-warming, romantic books.
