I never thought my first kiss would be on my wedding day.
But here I stand, clutching a bouquet of pale pink roses behind the doors of a Las Vegas chapel, and at the end of the aisle is the absolute last man I imagined would be waiting for me.
Thomas Bane.
Bestselling author. Notorious bad boy. Savagely handsome, dark as sin, chiseled as stone. And somehow, my soon-to-be husband.
Marry him, and I’ll land my dream job. Save him, and I’ll walk away with everything I’ve ever wanted. All I have to do is remember it’s all for show. None of it is real, no matter how real it feels.
But first, I have to survive the kiss.
And with lips like his, my heart doesn’t stand a chance.

This book was not at all on my radar until early reviews starting coming in RAVING about the romance. When I finally read the synopsis and saw it was about a blogger and a writer getting married and THEN falling in love, I was definitely intrigued and had to read it.

Amelia has never been kissed and feels crippling anxiety in any social situation she finds herself in. She's trying to push past it, though, and decides to go to Thomas Bane's book signing on assignment from her boss. The next thing she knows, she's agreeing to help Thomas write his newest book and marry him to save his reputation. In return, Amelia will finally land the job of her dreams. Little does she know, Thomas is even more charming than he is in the media and quickly finds herself falling for the caring, gentle man who might be falling for her too.

When I first started reading this book, I definitely fell head over heels for Thomas's character. From the moment Amelia met him, I loved how honest and caring he was when it came to Amelia. And the fact that he's a writer!? SWOOOOOOOON. It was so fun watching Amelia help Tommy write and Tommy find so much inspiration from his relationship with Amelia. I loved how their relationship developed into something so much more as they started to get to know each other after their marriage of convenience.

I was absolutely obsessed with this story for about 85% of the way though until the conflict arose. To me, the conflict was pretty obvious from the start and I was just hoping that wasn't going to play out the way I thought it was. It was a trope that I'm not a fan of and Tommy ended up being super hypocritical. Ugh. Once that was over, I do think the ending went on for a little too long and could have wrapped up a bit sooner. Until that point, though, this romance was EVERYTHING and definitely on the track to being a five star read!

Overall, this was such fun book that I think every book lover will love. Who wouldn't want their own hot fantasy writer who is super caring and amazing?? Seriously, can Thomas Bane be a real person? Because I claim him as mine! I definitely recommend picking up this adorable romance!

About the Author

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

Book Review: The Elite by Kiera Cass

The Elite (The Selection #2)
by Kiera Cass
Release Date: April 23, 2013
Source: Own Copy
The Selection began with thirty-five girls.
Now with the group narrowed down to the six Elite, the competition to win Prince Maxon's heart is fiercer than ever—and America is still struggling to decide where her heart truly lies. Is it with Maxon, who could make her life a fairy tale? Or with her first love, Aspen?

America is desperate for more time. But the rest of the Elite know exactly what they want—and America's chance to choose is about to slip away.

I don't know how Kiera Cass does it, but this series is just SO GOSH DARN ADDICTING. Seriously, there is just something about this competition to win Maxon's heart that has me obsessively reading and unable to put this series down.

Now that she's made it into the top six, America is even more confused about what she wants. Does she really have feelings for Maxon and are his feelings for her genuine? Or does she still want to be with Aspen, the boy she's been in love with before this whole Selection even happened? As the rebels are becoming more threatening, it's more important than ever for America to decide if she can really see herself as Queen or if she just cannot support a monarchy that has done nothing to help her in life.

AHHHHHH. This book. While I didn't love it as much as book one, I loved the Bachelor-esque storyline. America is clearly developing even stronger feelings for Maxon but constantly gets jealous when he's dating the other girls. This makes it even harder for America to trust that Maxon has feelings for her or if he's just trying to keep her around. And, like in book one, the love triangle is SO ANNOYING but in a way that I actually like it? Ugh. I clearly have a favorite but I still got confused about who I wanted America to choose.

Not only was I addicted to the romance, but I was also intrigued by the mystery and politics of the monarchy. America was slowly uncovering secrets about the history of their country and I have so many questions that are still unanswered. I am even more eager to read the last book of this trilogy to find out who America chooses and the truth about the rebels' motives and the monarchy.

I really shouldn't be surprised that I couldn't put this book down after how much I loved the first book in the series. I do think that this was a bit slower than the first book and America got a tad annoying with how much she flip-flopped between Aspen and Maxon, but I was still obsessed with this story and am dying to get to the next book!

While this series isn't that new anymore, I am just discovering my love for it. With a country with a mysterious history, a love triangle, and government secrets, you won't be able to put this series down!

Book Review: 99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne

99 Percent Mine
by Sally Thorne
Release Date: January 29, 2019
Source: Publisher
Crush: a strong and often short-lived infatuation, particularly for someone beyond your reach…

Darcy Barrett has undertaken a global survey of men. She’s travelled the world, and can categorically say that no one measures up to Tom Valeska, whose only flaw is that Darcy’s twin brother Jamie saw him first and claimed him forever as his best friend. Despite Darcy’s best efforts, Tom’s off limits and loyal to her brother, 99%. That’s the problem with finding her dream man at age eight and peaking in her photography career at age twenty—ever since, she’s had to learn to settle for good enough.

When Darcy and Jamie inherit a tumble-down cottage from their grandmother, they’re left with strict instructions to bring it back to its former glory and sell the property. Darcy plans to be in an aisle seat halfway across the ocean as soon as the renovations start, but before she can cut and run, she finds a familiar face on her porch: house-flipper extraordinaire Tom’s arrived, he’s bearing power tools, and he’s single for the first time in almost a decade.

Suddenly Darcy’s considering sticking around to make sure her twin doesn’t ruin the cottage’s inherent magic with his penchant for grey and chrome. She’s definitely not staying because of her new business partner’s tight t-shirts, or that perfect face that's inspiring her to pick up her camera again. Soon sparks are flying—and it’s not the faulty wiring. It turns out one percent of Tom’s heart might not be enough for Darcy anymore. This time around, she’s switching things up. She’s going to make Tom Valeska 99 percent hers.

We have all been waiting for this book. After The Hating Game took the romance genre by storm, I know I have been dying for another book from Sally. Going into this one, though, I kept an open mind and an open heart for a new set of Sally's characters.

Darcy has always been the broken child with the heart condition. Everyone worries about her, so when she just up and leaves to travel the world, she's living life on her terms. What she can't run from, though, is the perfection that is Tom Valeska. As her twin brother's childhood best friend, Darcy has always known that Tom is off limits, but that hasn't stopped her feelings for him. Now, Darcy is back home and forced to work with Tom on renovating her recently passed Grandmother's house. Darcy and Tom are forced to confront where they fit in each other's lives while confronting their own flaws and fears.

Okay, going into this one, it is SO IMPORTANT to not expect another Hating Game. These characters couldn't be more different and the lessons they learn definitely impacted their characters by the end of the story. That being said, I was so pleased to find myself falling head over heels for Tom's character. Tom is the epitome of the golden boy. Ugh, I couldn't stop swooning! He is so dedicated and gentle and cared so genuinely for Darcy. It was fun watching them dance around each other as they tried to ignore their attraction.

As for Darcy's character, she definitely took some warming up to before I ended up enjoying her. She is what I would consider a spunky character. She spent years traveling and is now working at a bar until she can fix her grandma's place and leave again to go traveling. She definitely has issues and has to learn to deal with those. I loved how working on her grandmother's house was kind of therapeutic and helped both Darcy and Tom learn more about themselves and confront the insecurities they have about themselves.

Overall, I ended up loving this book as it's own story. Tom is a new book boyfriend and I ended up loving Darcy in her own way. The romance in this book was so slow book and so worth the wait. I definitely recommend going into this one with absolutely no expectations and you're bound to love it!

Book Review: Kulti by Mariana Zapata

Kulti
by Mariana Zapata
Release Date: Marcy 20, 2015
Source: Own Copy
When the man you worshipped as a kid becomes your coach, it’s supposed to be the greatest thing in the world. Keywords: supposed to.

It didn't take a week for 27-year-old Sal Casillas to wonder what she'd seen in the international soccer icon - why she'd ever had his posters on her wall or ever envisioned marrying him and having super-playing soccer babies.

Sal had long ago gotten over the worst non-break-up in the history of imaginary relationships with a man who hadn't known she'd existed. So she isn't prepared for this version of Reiner Kulti who shows up to her team's season: a quiet, reclusive shadow of the explosive, passionate man he'd once been.

For over a year now, EVERYONE has been telling me to read this book. I am a huge sports romance fan and I've loved the few Mariana Zapata books I've read, so it's about time I finally picked this book up!

Sal Casillas has worshipped Rainer Kulti since she was a little girl. So when he becomes one of the new coaches of her professional soccer team, she's as excited as everyone else seems to be. Until Kulti shows up to their practice with his steely glare and quiet demeanor. Sal soon becomes infuriated with the ex-professional soccer player, but she soon learns that there is much more to Kulti than meets the eye. Sal and Kulti strike up an unusual friendship as Sal fights to remember that the brooding and oh-so-attractive German is her coach and completely off limits.

The first thing I have to warn anyone who tries to read this book is that it is SLOW BURN. These two become friends and I really appreciated how genuine their relationship was. I was living for their time together and loved every moment they trained or just hung out, even if it wasn't romantic for SO LONG. Also, even though there is a pretty significant age gap, I wasn't bothered by it in the least. Sal was so dedicated to her sport and they were able to bond over their drive and passion for soccer.

While I was all in for the romance brewing between Sal and Kulti, I also really loved all of the side characters that were involved in the story. I am super close with my dad, so I really loved how close Sal was with her father. Sal's family was never forgotten and I enjoyed the times when she visited or stayed with them. Her friends on the soccer team were also fun and I loved the dynamic they all had with one another.

It's no surprise that this book has been one of my favorites of the year so far. I loved all of the soccer and the slow burn of the romance between Sal and Kulti. While the wait drove me crazy, it was well worth it. If you want a romance with a brooding but irresistible soccer player, you have to pick up Kulti!

Figures.
It was the gorgeous guy I’d seen in the elevator. And here I thought we’d had a little spark.
Bennett Fox grinned like he’d already been named my boss and extended his hand. “Welcome to Foster Burnett.”
Ugh. He wasn’t just good looking; he knew it, too.
“That would be Foster, Burnett and Wren, as of a few weeks ago, right?” I iced my subtle reminder that this was now our place of employment with a smile, suddenly thankful my parents had made me wear braces until I was nearly sixteen.
“Of course.” My new nemesis smiled just as brightly. Apparently his parents had sprung for orthodontic care, too.
Bennett Fox was also tall. I once read an article that said the average height of a man in the US was five-foot-nine-and-a-half inches; less than fifteen percent of men stood taller than six feet. Yet the average height of more than sixty-eight percent of Fortune 500 CEOs was over six feet. Subconsciously, we related size to power in more ways than just brawn.
Andrew was six foot two. I’d guess this guy was about the same.
Bennett pulled out the guest chair next to him. “Please, have a seat.”
Tall and with gentlemanly manners. I disliked him already.
During the ensuing twenty-minute pep talk given by Jonas Stern—in which he attempted to convince us we weren’t vying for the same position, but instead forging the way as leaders of the now-largest ad agency in the United States—I stole glances at Bennett Fox.
Shoes: definitely expensive. Conservative, oxford in style, but with a modern edge of topstitching. Ferragamo would be my guess. Big feet, too.
Suit: dark navy, tailored to fit his tall, broad frame. The kind of understated luxury that said he had money, but didn’t need to flaunt it to impress you.
He had one long leg casually crossed over the other knee, as if we were discussing the weather rather than being told everything we’d worked twelve hours a day, six days a week for was suddenly at risk of being in vain.
At one point, Jonas had said something we both agreed with, and we looked at each other, nodding. Given the opportunity for a closer inspection, my eyes roamed his handsome face. Strong jaw, daringly straight, perfect nose—the type of bone structure passed down from generation to generation that was better and more useful than any monetary inheritance. But his eyes were the showstopper: a deep, penetrating green that popped from his smooth, tanned skin. Those were currently staring right at me.
I looked away, returning my attention to Jonas. “So what happens at the end of the ninety-day integration period? Will there be two Creative Directors of West Coast Marketing?”
Jonas looked back and forth between us and sighed. “No. But no one is going to lose his or her job. I was just about to tell Bennett the news. Rob Gatts announced he’ll be retiring in a few months. So there will be a position opening up for a creative director to replace him.”
I had no idea what that meant. But apparently Bennett did.
“So one of us gets shipped off to Dallas to replace Rob in the southwest region?” he asked.
Jonas’s face told me Bennett wouldn’t be happy about the prospect of heading to Texas. “Yes.
All three of us let that sink in for a moment. The possibility of having to relocate to Texas shifted my mind back into gear, though.
“Who will make the decision?” I asked. “Because obviously you’ve been working with Bennett…”
Jonas shook his head and waved off what I was beginning to question. “Decisions like this—where two senior management positions are being merged into one office—the board will oversee and make the final determination of who gets first pick.”
Bennett was just as confused as me. “The board members don’t work with us on a daily basis.”
“No, they don’t. So they’ve come up with a method of making their decision.”
“Which is?”
“It’ll be based on three major client pitches. You’ll both come up with campaigns on your own and present them. The clients will pick which they like best.”
Bennett looked rattled for the first time. His perfect composure and self-assuredness took a hit as he leaned forward and raked long fingers through his hair.
“You’ve got to be kidding me. More than ten years, and my job here comes down to a few pitches? I’ve landed half-a-billion dollars of ad accounts for this company.”
“I’m sorry, Bennett. I really am. But one of the conditions of the Wren merger was that due consideration be given to the Wren employees in positions that might be eliminated because of duplicity. The deal almost didn’t go through because Mrs. Wren was so insistent that she not sell her husband’s company, only to have the new organization strip away all of Wren’s hard-working employees.”
That made me smile. Mr. Wren was taking care of his employees even after he was gone.
“I’m up for the challenge.” I looked at Bennett, who was clearly pissed off. “May the best woman win.”

He scowled. “You mean man.”

SYNOPSIS

Bennett Fox walked into my life on one hell of a crappy Monday morning. I was late for the first day at my new job—a job I’d now have to com-pete for even though I’d already worked eight years to earn it, because of an unexpected mer-ger. While I lugged my belongings up to my new office, a meter maid wrote me a parking summons. She’d ticketed a long line of cars—except for the Audi parked in front of me, which happened to be the same make and model as mine. Annoyed, I decided to regift my ticket to the car that had evad-ed a fine. Chances were, the owner would pay it and be none the wiser. Except, I accidentally broke the windshield wiper while slip-ping the ticket onto the car’s window. Seriously, my day couldn’t get any worse. Things started to perk up when I ran into a gorgeous man in the ele-vator. We had one of those brief moments that only happened in movies. You know the deal…your body lights up, fireworks go off, and the air around you crackles with electricity. His heated stare left me flush when I stepped off the elevator. Maybe things here wouldn’t be so bad after all. Or so I thought. Until I walked into my new boss’s office and met my competi-tion. The gorgeous man from the elevator was now my nemesis. His heat-ed stare wasn’t because of any mutual attraction. It was because he’d saw me vandalize his car. And now he couldn’t wait to annihilate his rival. There’s a fine line between love and hate—and we shouldn’t cross it. We shouldn’t—but straddling that line could be so much fun.

Book Review: Verity by Colleen Hoover

Verity
by Colleen Hoover
Release Date: December 7, 2018
Source: Kindle Unlimited
Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity's notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn't expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity's recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

To say this book was hyped when I read it would be a huge understatement. Everyone was FREAKING out about this book and I knew that I had to pick it up to see what the fuss was about.

Lowen Ashleigh isn't sure how she's going to pay the rent on her apartment and is struggling financially. So when the opportunity comes from Jeremy Crawford to finish his wife's best-selling series because she can't write anymore, Lowen knows she needs to take the job. In order to do so, Lowen needs to stay at the Crawford's house to research and go through the author's notes. When Lowen arrives, though, there is an eerie presence in the house and Lowen uncovers secrets about the family that make her want to run and never return.

Holy. Cow. The moment I finished this book, I honestly had no idea what to say or even think. I had heard that this book was an insane thriller, but I had no idea just how thrilling it would be. I will say it is definitely more psychologically thrilling, but boy did it mess with my head. I didn't know what to believe, who to believe, or what the heck was even happening.

Going into this, I would honestly tell you to go in as blind as you can. This review is not that detailed because I had no idea what I was getting myself into, and I think that's why I loved it so much. So much shocked me and I had no idea what was going to happen next. There is a romance, but it definitely is not the central plot line. I normally don't read thrillers, but I was sucked in and could not put this book down.

Blurb

There’s a fine line between lust and hate.

I don’t care that Drew Merritt spent the last year transforming himself from grungy slob to sexy playboy. With messy, dirty blond hair and gorgeous eyes, his looks aren’t the problem.

His mouth is.

And the stupid things that come out of it.

But after an emergency strands us together, and he does his damnedest to take care of me…

Let’s just say there’s one thing we don’t clash on.

And it doesn’t involve talking.

I’ve despised Drew since I met him years ago. One weekend can’t change us that much, can it?

Spoiler alert: It doesn’t.

Except he left me a little keepsake.

And in nine months, I’ll have a surprise for Portland’s most notorious player.

An avid reader from a young age, she will always trade watching TV for reading a book, unless it's Top Gear. Or football. Leslie is employed by day but spends her nights writing about the men you fantasize about. She's unapologetically sarcastic and notoriously terrible at comma placement.

Always up for a laugh, Leslie tries to see humor in all things. When she's not in the writing cave you'll find her fangirling over Beck, camping with her family, or mixing up oil paints to depict her love of outdoors on canvas.
