Release Day Blitz + Review: The Gypsy King by Denvey Perry

The former Tin Gypsy motorcycle club has everyone in Clifton Forge, Montana convinced they’ve locked their clubhouse doors and ripped off their patches. Everyone but Bryce Ryan. There’s more happening at the club’s garage than muscle car restorations and Harley rebuilds. Her instincts are screaming there’s a story—one she’s going to tell.

As the new owner of the small town’s newspaper, Bryce is hungry for more than birth announcements and obituaries. When a woman is brutally killed and all signs point to the Tin Gypsies, Bryce is determined to expose the club and their leader, Kingston “Dash” Slater, as murderers.

Bryce bests Dash match after match, disappointed her rugged and handsome opponent turns out to be an underwhelming adversary. Secrets are exposed. Truths defeat lies. Bryce is poised to win this battle in a landslide.

Then Dash breaks all the rules and tips the scales.
One kiss, and she’s fighting to save more than just her story. She’s fighting to save her heart from the Gypsy King.

Everyone who follows me knows I love a good motorcycle romance. I was so excited to see that Devney Perry was starting a new series that was delving into the MC world!

When this book started, I was so intrigued. Our main character, Bryce, was a journalist and she was determined to get behind the real reason why The Gypsies, the MC club in town, had disbanded and if they were really done for good. I enjoyed her banter with King, the old president of the MC, and how they went from hate to lust. That being said, I do think the lust was acted on a bit too early, especially seeing as they were literal enemies in the town because of Bryce's position on the paper and desire to expose his whole lifestyle and his father. Once they started actually getting to know each other, though, I was totally on board with that relationship.

There was definitely some of the heart-pumping action that I love in my MC romances, but I was surprised (and slightly annoyed) that the mystery that this whole book revolved around wasn't even solved at the end. I was under the impression that this series would be a series of standalones about different couples, but I didn't know the mystery would thread all throughout. We still don't know the truth behind the murder that Bryce is trying to investigate or who was behind certain things.

Overall, this was definitely a fun motorcycle romance with some intense chemistry between the main characters, I just wanted a little more substance in their relationship before they acted on that attracted, and I wish we had some conclusion to the premise of the whole book. I'd definitely recommend checking out this book and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book!

BLURB

Dear Jerk Across the Street, sorry for accidentally walking in on you and catching an eyeful of your—equipment. And hard pass on the open invitation to join you in the shower “anytime”, A-hole.

That’s the note I should’ve written. Instead I sent a pleasant and apologetic version.

Had I known Phoenix “Nix” Russo would’ve been the neighbor from hell, I’d have told him right where he could shove my words.

Nix is the big man on campus with everyone lined up at his games to make sure he knows it. Sure, he’s got piercing blue eyes, abs that don’t quit and a smile that could set fire to a set of panties from a hundred yards away, but he’s also the biggest pain in my ass.

Dear Pink-Haired Menace, learn how to take a joke and stop being such a kill-joy...

Elle Masterson called the cops on one of my parties—again. My sweet talking usually gets me out of trouble, but this time it got me into a nice pair of silver handcuffs. Now I’m on a reputation rehab tour with a stop at a spring break community service project.

Guess who’s my new boss?

Now we’re shoulder to shoulder, sweaty, tired and…she’s not anything like I expected. There might just be a heart under that hardass exterior. She’s invading my dreams and I can’t shake the feeling she’s the key to unlocking a piece of me that I’ve hidden away.

It’s only a matter of time until she finds out why I’m really here.

Maybe I can break through her walls and into her heart before that happens...one screw at a time.

Book Review: Faker by Sarah Smith

Faker
by Sarah Smith
Release Date: October 8, 2019
Source: Publisher
Debut author Sarah Smith nails this fun and sexy multicultural romance where two office foes hammer out their differences to build a love that will last...

Emmie Echavarre is a professional faker. She has to be to survive as one of the few female employees at Nuts & Bolts, a power tool company staffed predominantly by gruff, burly men. From nine to five, Monday through Friday, she's tough as nails--the complete opposite of her easy-going real self.

One thing she doesn't have to fake? Her disdain for coworker Tate Rasmussen. Tate has been hostile to her since the day they met. Emmie's friendly greetings and repeated attempts to get to know him failed to garner anything more than scowls and terse one-word answers. Too bad she can't stop staring at his Thor-like biceps...

When Emmie and Tate are forced to work together on a charity construction project, things get...heated. Emmie's beginning to see that beneath Tate's chiseled exterior lies a soft heart, but it will take more than a few kind words to erase the past and convince her that what they have is real.

I am such a huge fan of enemies to lovers romances, so to say I was excited for this book was an understatement. I went into this one with some pretty high expectations and was sadly disappointed.

Working at an office full of men, Emmie is used to faking confidence to make it as a professional. She doesn't let anyone walk all over her and she speaks her mind, even though she's really not that confident on the inside. Especially when it comes to her infuriatingly annoying coworker, Tate. When Emmie is forced to work with Tate on a project, she doesn't know how she'll survive. Until they are forced together in ways they force them to confront their feelings for one other and see beneath their animosity for each other.

When this book started, I was loving it. I loved how much Emmie and Tate bickered and how you could just tell there was more to Tate that Emmie had to discover yet. What was distracting, though, was how obsessed Emmie was with Tate's pale skin. She mentioned it at least 20 times in just the first half of the book. WE GOT IT. He's pale. Cool. I was not a fan of that infatuation.

As the story progressed, Emmie and Tate pretty much got over their hate to love halfway through, and the story just went downhill from there. Some things were thrown in as conflict and the rest was just them dating. I feel horrible saying it, but I'm not a fan of just reading about a happy couple. I love the angst of them trying to get together and not being able to be together. I was just not as interested after they stopped hating each other so soon.

While I really enjoyed this book as it started and thought Tate was a super adorable love interest, the rest of the book didn't really hold my interest. I wasn't a fan of Emmie as much as I thought I would be and I wish the enemies lasted just a little bit longer. In the end, my expectations of this were high and were just not met.

Book Review: How to Love a Duke in Ten Days by Kerrigan Byrne

How to Love a Duke in Ten Days (Devil You Know #1)
by Kerrigan Byrne
Release Date: August 27, 2019
Source: Publisher
These men are dark, bold, and brave. And there is only one woman who can bring them to their knees...

Famed and brilliant, Lady Alexandra Lane has always known how to look out for to herself. But nobody would ever expect that she has darkness in her past—one that she pays a blackmailer to keep buried. Now, with her family nearing bankruptcy, Alexandra strikes upon a solution: Get married to one of the empire’s most wealthy eligible bachelors. Even if he does have the reputation of a devil.

LOVE TAKES NO PRISONERS

Piers Gedrick Atherton, the Duke of Redmayne, is seeking revenge and the first step is securing a bride. Winning a lady’s hand is not so easy, however, for a man known as the Terror of Torcliff. Then, Alexandra enters his life like a bolt of lightning. When she proposes marriage, Piers knows that, like him, trouble haunts her footsteps. But her gentleness, sharp wit, independent nature, and incredible beauty awakens every fierce desire within him. He will do whatever it takes to keep her safe in his arms.

Ever since I read The Highwayman a few months ago and LOVED it, I have been dying to read another Kerrigan Byrne book. When I received an ARC of this from the publisher, I about died from excitement and dove right in!

After the most horrific night of her life, Lady Alexandra Lane makes a pack with her best friends to always be there for each other and keep each other's secrets no matter what. Now, a blackmailer is after her money and Alexandra's only option is to find a man to protect her. The Duke of Redmayne needs a bride, so when Alexandra offers her hand, he knows he can't refuse. The more time the two spend together after their marriage, the more they start to genuinely like each other...

When this book started, I absolutely loved Alexandra's relationship with her best friends. They were so fiercely loyal and went through so much together. Even when Alexandra decided she had to get married to protect herself, they were there for her. Then, once she married Piers, I loved how Alexandra and her new husband challenged each other and how Alexandra showed him just how fierce and intelligent she was.

While the middle did lull a bit, I enjoyed following Piers and Alexandra on their honeymoon and how Alexandra was still determined to keep her secrets from him. There was even some suspense thrown in at the end and I loved how protective Piers was when it came to his new wife.

Overall, this was another great read from Kerrigan Byrne. She has easily become one of my new historical romance authors and I can't wait to read even more from her!
