I am VERY excited to announce that I have an awesome giveaway for all of my lovely followers! One lucky winner will receive Chris Evans' complete Iron Elves series! I am currently in the process of reading these, so I will definitely give you a review once I'm done! For now, here's a little information on the books! Entry instructions are below!

Hardcover book 3 of the Iron Elves, Ashes of a Black Frost (Gallery Books; October 18, 2011; $25.99)
Praise for Book Three of the Iron Elves, ASHES OF A BLACK FROST, the final in the series:
“Evans ably continues the saga of the determined and driven Iron Elves and their valiant leader, Maj. Konowa Swift Dragon, in this gritty follow-up to 2009’s The Light of Burning Shadows…heroic action keeps Evans’s fans coming back.”
—Publishers Weekly

“A fast-paced, action-filled, fitting end to an epic tale between forces of good, evil and those with a bit of both, filled with characters from fairy tales to nightmares who all play their roles beautifully, especially the enigmatic Konowa Swift Dragon. You’ll want to read this trilogy…”
—Romantic Times, ****Four Star Review

The acclaimed epic fantasy series Iron Elves by Chris Evans captured readers with A Darkness Forged in Fire and The Light of Burning Shadows, and now has followers eagerly anticipating the third and final in the Iron Elves series, ASHES OF A BLACK FROST (Gallery Books; October 18, 2011; $25.99).  Amidst a scene of carnage on a desert battlefield blanketed in metallic snow, Major Konowa Swift Dragon sees his
future, and it is one drenched in shadow and blood.  Never mind that he has won a grand victory for the Calahrian Empire.  He came here in search of his lost regiment of elves, while the Imperial Prince came looking for the treasures of a mystical library, and both ventures have failed.  But Konowa knows, as do the Iron Elves—both living and dead—that another, far more important battle now looms before them.  The campaign in the desert was only the latest obstacle on the twisted, darkening path leading inexorably to the Hyntaland, and the final confrontation with the dreaded Shadow Monarch.

In this third novel of musket and magic in Chris Evans’s Iron Elves saga, Konowa’s ultimate journey is fraught with escalating danger.  A vast, black forest finds a new source of dark power, spawning creatures even more monstrous than the blood trees from which they evolve.  The maniacally unstable former emissary of the Shadow Monarch hungers for revenge, leading an army of ravenous beasts bent on utterly destroying the Iron Elves.  A reluctant hero, Private Alwyn Renwar, struggles to maintain his connection to this world and that of the loyalty of the shades of the dead.  And in a maze of underground tunnels, Visyna Tekoy, whom Konowa counts among those he has loved and lost, fights for her life against the very elves he so desperately wants to find.

And so Konowa sets off from this Canyon of Bones, pursuing his freedom from a curse that has cast his life in darkness.  For though his long, violent trek may indeed lead him to his destiny, he is ill prepared for the discovery he will make…with the fate of the Iron Elves, and the world, hinging on the courage of one wrathful elf.

ASHES OF A BLACK FROST will engage Iron Elves enthusiasts from beginning to end, as well as entice new readers as part of a series that is “a grand new entry in the field of fantasy masters” (Richard A. Knaak, New York Times bestselling author)—a Fall 2011 adventure not to be missed.

Paperback book 2 of the Iron Elves, The Light of Burning Shadows (Pocket Books; October 26, 2010; $9.99)
Praise for Book II of the Iron ElvesThe Light of Burning Shadows:
“Evans evokes the era of Napoleon with muskets and slashing swords while neatly mixing in military fantasy, swords and sorcery, and a great deal of success; readers will no doubt end up desperate for the next volume.”
—Publishers Weekly, starred review

“A gutsy fantasy set in a world of imperial greed and magical plotting, with an eye for the ordinary soldier’s plight that would have done Kipling proud.”
—Karen Traviss, #1 New York Times bestselling author

Shaking up the science fiction world again, the second in the thrilling Iron Elves series by Chris Evans, THE LIGHT OF BURNING SHADOWS is now available in paperback.

Musket and cannon, bow and arrow, and magic and diplomacy vie for supremacy once again in the second epic fantasy adventure from acclaimed author Chris Evans.  As the human-dominated Calahrian Empire struggles to maintain its hold on power in the face of armed rebellion from within, the Iron Elves’ perilous quest to defeat the power-hungry witch, the Shadow Monarch, takes on greater urgency.

The Iron Elves, shunned by their own people for bearing the mark of the Shadow Monarch, and desperately wanting to forever erase this shame, became legendary for their prowess on the battlefield as the Calahrian Imperial Army’s elite shock troops.  But when their commanding officer, Konowa Swift Dragon, murdered the Viceroy of Elfkyna, he was exiled, and these brave elves were banished to a remote desert outpost, doomed and leaderless, their honor in tatters.

Recalled to duty to reform his regiment from the dregs of the Imperial Army, Konowa thwarted the plans of the Shadow Monarch at the Battle of Luuguth Jor—ensuring that the fabled Red Star, a source of great natural energy, did not fall into Her hands.  Now Konowa must cross storm-tossed seas to seek out the lost elves and the prophesied return of another Star somewhere in a desert wasteland roiling with mysterious power, infernos of swirling magic, and legends brought back to life in new and terrible ways.  And the fate of every living creature will come to depend on a small band of ragged and desperate soldiers, whose very loyalty to the Empire they have sworn to serve is no longer certain.  When death is but a temporary condition, a terrifying question arises: who is the true ally—and fearsome enemy—in a growing conflict that threatens all?  THE LIGHT OF BURNING SHADOWS will keep a strong hold of readers as they seek to find resolution in this thrilling epic.

Paperback book 1 of the Iron Elves, A Darkness Forged in Fire (Pocket Books; May 26, 2009; $9.99)
Praise for A DARKNESS FORGED IN FIRE:
“Slyly humorous details…”
—Publishers Weekly

“Evans’s first novel heralds the launch of an outstanding military fantasy series…Strong storytelling, a compelling cast of heroes and villains, and a keen knowledge of military tactics of the Napoleonic era make this a priority purchase for most libraries and a splendid read for fans of both sf and fantasy military adventure. Highly recommended.”
—Library Journal, starred review

“A masterful debut—if J.R.R. Tolkien and Bernard Cornwell had a literary love child, this would be it.”
—Karen Traviss, #1 New York Times bestselling author

“An earthy, sardonic antihero…flanked by a large, colorful cast.”
—Booklist

“Chris Evans new series could be labeled muskets and magic…I’m waiting eagerly for the next installment of this exciting adventure.”
UCReview.com, Henry Lazarus

Shaking up the science fiction world this summer is the exciting adventure by Chris Evans now in paperback—the first in a stunning series, A DARKNESS FORGED IN FIRE introduces an unforgiving world of musket and cannon…bow and arrow…magic, diplomacy, and oaths—each wielding terrible power in an Empire teetering on the brink of war.

In this world, Konowa Swift Dragon, former commander of the Empire’s elite Iron Elves, is looked upon as anything but ordinary.  He’s murdered a Viceroy, been court-martialed, seen his beloved regiment disbanded, and finally been banished in disgrace to the one place he despises the most—the forest.

Now, all he wants is to be left alone with his misery…but for Konowa, nothing is ever that simple.  The mysterious and alluring Visyna Tekoy, the highborn daughter of an elfkynan governor, seeks him out in the dangerous wild with a royal decree that he resume his commission as an officer in Her Majesty’s Imperial Army, effective immediately.

For in the east, a falling Red Star heralds the return of a magic long vanished from the earth.  Rebellion grows within the Empire as a frantic race to reach the Star unfolds.  It is a chance for Konowa to redeem himself—even if the entire affair appears doomed to be a suicide mission…and the soldiers recruited for the task are not at all what he expects.  And worse, his key adversary in the perilous race for the Star is the dreaded Shadow Monarch—a legendary elf-witch whose machinations for absolute domination spread deeper than Konowa could ever imagine.  A DARKNESS FORGED IN FIRE will keep many lights on late into the night this summer as readers find themselves hooked to the last page.

Book Review: Eye Contact by Rebecca Royce

Summary: Thirty years ago, after the breakdown of an oil negotiation, the President of the United States decided that all people born with unusual abilities, which he would now refer to as “the condition”, would be locked away from the general public where they couldn't harm others. Parents and loved ones of these people, most of whom were children, were forced to turn them in upon penalty of death. Formed to keep the institutions secure, the Committee for the Protection of a Free Society now rules these institutions with an iron fist.

The granddaughter of one the Committee members, Addison Wade has lived her life wary of the institutions and all they represent. A woman of secrets, she is forced to turn to Safe Dawn, one of the facilities designed to hold conditioned people, when her nephew is kidnapped and, despite her best efforts, cannot be recovered. She knows the last thing anyone in 'Safe Dawn' will want to do is to help a Wade with any problems, but she is desperate and out of options.

Spencer Lewis is famous for being the premier conditioned ‘locator.’ There's no one he can't find and he has a soft spot for missing children. But, Spencer has been through a trauma and locating Jeremy Wade may be dangerous both to himself and to those around him. In addition, he takes one look at ice cold Addison Wade and wants nothing more than to knock her down a peg. Never having turned down an opportunity to help a child, he reluctantly agrees to help recover Jeremy.

In a world where nothing is as it seems and every person they encounter has his own agenda, Addison and Spencer will find that the only people they can trust are each other. But how can anyone fall in love living in a world that wants you dead just for being born?

Review: Going into this book, all I knew was that it was a paranormal romance and not much else. So as I got into it, I was surprised how good it was! It's not the cliche paranormal with vampires and werewolves, but one where people have special powers and are hated by society. It reminded me so much of x-men, but with more romance and less fighting (which is awesome because I love x-men and romance). The thing I loved most about this book, though, was Spencer. He was viewed as "the bad boy" on the outside, but he was so sweet and really gentle on the inside. He never really was a bad boy and you could really see that by how he treated Addison. Some parts of the book were kind of predictable, but i still wanted to keep reading anyways to see what happened next because the story was so good. It was nice reading something that was so unique in it's story and characters while still maintaining a really interesting story. I highly recommend this book to anyone who's a paranormal fan but in the mood for something not so cliche. You'll really enjoy this one!

Shelf Candy (12)

Shelf Candy is a meme hosted by Five Alarm Book Reviews and every Saturday, bloggers choose a book whose cover really catches their eye. I know you're not supposed to judge a book by it's cover, but I always do, so I'm choosing books whose cover alone made me pick it up. So I hope you enjoy my shelf candy!

When I picture Juliet, I see a girl who is glowing with love. So when I look at this, I immediately ask why someone who is the character of one of the most famous love stories of all time is so sad. So I looked at the summary and see that this book is actually about Romeo murdering Juliet for his own immortality. Ah, now the cover makes sense. And it looks amazing! Her red dress really stands out against the water and rock, especially because the font matches that color. The whole setting is pretty and I can't get enough of it! The cover really drew me into looking up what this book was about and after reading the summary, this book is definitely at the top of my TBR list.

My Thoughts: I am SO close to finishing this book, but I hate starting reviews before I'm done and today was the tour date, so I promise the review will be up tomorrow. But as much as I've read now, it's so awesome! It reminds me of X-Men but as a romance, and I love X-Men, so it's pretty awesome! And I really really like Spencer :) That being said, I really can't wait to finish it up and tell everyone what I think! Make sure to stop by again soon to read my full review!

Book Review: The Last Blind Date by Linda Yellin

Summary: A fun, charming memoir about a woman who falls in love, packs her bags, and starts over in the city that eats its young.

Review: I normally don't read memoirs, but this one looked so cute that I decided to give it a try when I had the opportunity to read it. Surprisingly, I enjoyed it a lot! The author, Linda, is a very likable person and following her through her trials with relationships was great. Usually I don't like reading books about older couples either, but with this one it really opened my eyes to how relationships really aren't that different no matter how old you are. It was really sad in the beginning how her relationship with Teddy didn't work out, but Randy is a pretty awesome guy. Her perspective as a stepmother was also nice to see because people don't normally think of how hard it would be to become a stepmother to kids who are already pretty old. What I like most, though, was how LInda's attitude towards New York. I had no idea that people in Chicago and New York view each other as so different because to me, they're both city people. Linda's commentary on everything was funny and charming and the overall story was really sweet. So if you're in the mood for a real life love story, you should try to pick this one up.

Waiting on Wednesday (13)

This is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where every Wednesday bloggers highlight a book that they are eagerly anticipating the release of!

Trying Not to Breathe
By Jennifer Hubbard
Release Date: January 19th
Summary: A dark and provocative novel from the author of The Secret Year

Ryan spends most of his time alone at the local waterfall because it’s the only thing that makes him feel alive. He’s sixteen, post-suicidal, and trying to figure out what to do with himself after a stint in a mental hospital. Then Nicki barges into his world, brimming with life and energy, and asking questions about Ryan’s depression that no one else has ever been brave enough—or cared enough—to ask. Ryan isn’t sure why he trusts Nicki with his darkest secrets, but that trust turns out to be the catalyst that he desperately needs to start living again.

Jennifer R. Hubbard has created a riveting story about a difficult but important subject.

I saw this book on someone else's WoW a couple of weeks ago and instantly fell in love with the cover. Then, when I read the summary, I knew I had to read this book when it came out. It sounds like a more serious book which will be a nice break fun all of the light, fun books I normally read. The romance between Nicki and Ryan sounds so real and sweet that I can't wait to indulge myself in it! Hopefully time passes quick so I can read this one soon!

Shelf Candy (11)

Shelf Candy is a meme hosted by Five Alarm Book Reviews and every Saturday, bloggers choose a book whose cover really catches their eye. I know you're not supposed to judge a book by it's cover, but I always do, so I'm choosing books whose cover alone made me pick it up. So I hope you enjoy my shelf candy!

Normally I'm drawn to covers with actual people on them, but when I saw this cover, I was really intrigued. I love how spunky the picture is with the different colored teacups and scraggly font. Then, when I read the summary, I figured out that this was about two sisters who go on a murdering spree because they have the desire to kill. With the story in mind, the red splattering looks like blood (which I had though before looked like cherry juice or something) and the cover gets 10 times cooler than it was before. Based off of all that, this cover manages to embody what the story is about while being simple and eye-catching.

Follow My Book Blog Friday (14)

This is a meme hosted every Friday by Parajunkee, where book bloggers answer a question each week and check out how others answered it. It's a cool way for bloggers and viewers to connect and learn more about each other!

Question: What superhero is your alter-ego?

Answer:

Superman has always been my favorite superhero, which partly has to do with my obsession with Smallville (I own the first 7 seasons on dvd). Since I'm obviously not a man, I'd definitely be Supergirl. Apparently when I was little, I had a supergirl shirt (or costume, I can't remember) and I would run around saying I was supergirl. I don't do this anymore (people would probably think I was crazy) but I think the idea of flying and having super human strength would be so awesome! So I'd pick supergirl as my alter-ego :)

Book Review: Flawless by Carrie Lofty

Summary: Sir William Christie, ruthless tycoon and notorious ladies’ man, is dead. Now his four grown children have gathered for the reading of his will. What lies in store for stepsiblings Vivienne, Alexander, and twins Gareth and Gwyneth? Stunning challenges that will test their fortitude across a royal empire . . . and lead them to the marvelously passionate adventures of their lives.
Lady Vivienne Bancroft fled England for New York, hoping to shed the confines of her arranged marriage to unrepentant rogue Miles Durham, Viscount Bancroft—though she never forgot the fiery desire he unleashed with his slightest touch. And when the gambling man arrives on her doorstep for a little sensual revenge for her desertion, he is met with Vivienne’s dilemma: She must earn her father’s inheritance by profitably running a diamond business worth millions in colonial South Africa. Swept together in an exotic undertaking filled with heated passion and hungry temptation, will Vivienne and Miles discover that the marriage vows they once made are the greatest snare—or the most treasured reward?
Review: I absolutely love historical romances and it has been wayyyyyy too long since I've read one. So I really enjoyed being able to escape into Flawless. I loved the time period and historical setting, how Vivian and Miles went to South Africa to work in the diamond business. I read on the back cover that Carrie Lofty received her Masters degree in History and I was really able to appreciate how she not only created a good romance, but also a story with such a rich historical context. So now that I've addressed the interesting background, let's get to the juicy stuff. Miles was the perfect man in this book to fall in love with. He was handsome, determined, and able to give a woman his whole heart. That, I'd say, is every girl's dream. Vivian was also a very likable heroine, coming from a troubled past and having to protect her heart while trying to remain strong on the outside. I really liked how Miles and Vivian were actually married, so we got to see how their relationship grew after they were already together. I wish the author spent more time on parts that were supposed to be climatic, like Miles's poker game and Vivian's encounter with the bad guy, while spending less time on other parts. Other than that, though, this was a nice romance to get lost in. Not to mention that the cover is absolutely gorgeous! So I recommend picking this book up if you're in the mood for a good historical romance.

Waiting on Wednesday (12)

The Demon Lover
By Juliet Dark
Release Date: December 27th
Summary: I gasped . . . or tried to. My mouth opened, but I couldn’t draw breath. . . . His lips, pearly wet, parted and he blew into my mouth. My lungs expanded beneath his weight. When I exhaled he sucked in my breath and his weight turned from cold marble into warm living flesh.

Since accepting a teaching position at remote Fairwick College in upstate New York, Callie McFay has experienced the same disturbingly erotic dream every night: A mist enters her bedroom, then takes the shape of a virile, seductive stranger who proceeds to ravish her in the most toe-curling, wholly satisfying ways possible. Perhaps these dreams are the result of writing her bestselling book, The Sex Lives of Demon Lovers. After all, Callie’s lifelong passion is the intersection of lurid fairy tales and Gothic literature—which is why she finds herself at Fairwick’s renowned folklore department, living in a once-stately Victorian house that, at first sight, seemed to call her name.

But Callie soon realizes that her dreams are alarmingly real. She has a demon lover—an incubus—and he will seduce her, pleasure her, and eventually suck the very life from her. Then Callie makes another startling discovery: He’s not the only mythical creature in Fairwick. As the tenured witches of the college and the resident fairies in the surrounding woods prepare to cast out the incubus, Callie must accomplish something infinitely more difficult—banishing this demon lover from her heart.

This book sounds soooooo good! I only looked into it more because the cover was so gorgeous, and boy am I glad! After reading this synopsis, I am counting down the days until this book comes out! I love reading books about people who write, but adding paranormal into it makes it sound that much more awesome! A demon seducing her and inspiring her lustful books? Yes please! This honestly sounds like just the book I would love to read. And that excerpt at the beginning of the summary just had me begging for more of this story! Let's hope this release date comes soon because I don't know how much longer I'll be able to wait!

Book Review: The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks

Summary: THE BEST OF ME is the heart-rending story of two small-town former high school sweethearts from opposite sides of the tracks. Now middle-aged, they've taken wildly divergent paths, but neither has lived the life they imagined . . . and neither can forget the passionate first love that forever altered their world. When they are both called back to their hometown for the funeral of the mentor who once gave them shelter, they will be forced to confront the choices each has made, and ask whether love can truly rewrite the past.

Review: Nicholas Sparks is by far one of my favorite authors ever. That being said, I rated this one more harshly than other books because I expected something that would make me laugh, cry, and sigh with how amazing the love is, like all of his other books did. Sadly, I could only give this one four stars. The fist thing that just didn't do it for me was the romance between Dawson and Amanda. I could tell they loved each other by the recap of their past and how they fell in love, but the present time in the book that they spent together didn't radiate the normal, intense passion that has been in his other books. I really enjoyed the main characters but I didn't connect with them. I wish we could have actually read about them falling in love in high school because then their love would have been more real 20 years down the road. So I was a bit bored in the first half of the book because I expected more passion and drama than what I actually got. The second half of the book, though, is what really saved the story. So many things happen that my heart was actually racing because I was so anxious to figure out what was going to happen next. Once the initial twist happened though, the book was slightly predictable so I knew what was going to happen in the last chapter of the book well before it actually occurred. Because of this, I didn't cry like I have in many of Sparks' other books, but I was still happy with the ending (though I would have been happier with a happier ending...). So overall The Best of Me was a very enjoyable book, but I didn't fall in love with it like I have with all of his other books. I still can't wait to see what they do with the movie for this! Yet another Nicholas Sparks creation to look forward too :)

I saw this cover this past Wednesday on someone's Waiting on Wednesday and I fell in love with it! The colors are so pretty and the girl looking at the camera upside down is really cool. The girl gives the title Born Wicked a kind of good, seductive vibe instead of the typically evil, ugly vibe. The script used for the title is magical and goes with the picture so well too. This book doesn't come out until February 17th, but I know I'm going to pick it up after seeing its gorgeous cover!

This is a meme hosted every Friday by Parajunkee, where book bloggers answer a question each week and check out how others answered it. It's a cool way for bloggers and viewers to connect and learn more about each other!

Question: If you could have characters from a book meet and from an epic storyline with characters from a TV series, which characters would you choose and why?

Answer:
    VS

Honestly, I would love to see the Salvator brothers take on the Cullens and beat the crap out of them. That way, people would stop judging everything vampires just because they hate Twilight. Vampire Diaries is such an amazing series and the vampires in that are seriously AWESOME. They actually kill people and are hard core vampires, not sparkly vampires who love the world. If the vampires from Vampire Diaries had the chance to show the world how awesome they were, then everybody would be able to appreciate the Salvatore brothers (aka Stefan) as much as I do :)

Book Review: Home At Last Chance by Hope Ramsay

Summary: Dear Reader,
You won't believe what's happened. My son Tulane has come back home! You remember Tulane? He'd set out to find fame and fortune in the big, wide world outside of Last Chance, and I'm mighty proud. But that's not the half of it-Tulane isn't only back, he's brought a young lady with him.

Now Sarah-she does PR for Tulane's stock-car team-she's from Boston, but she's just about the sweetest girl you could meet. I think she's meant to keep Tulane out of trouble after that story in the papers, but he doesn't want to talk about it. Anyhow, the Ladies Auxiliary can't wait to start matchmaking and introduce Sarah to our Reverend Ellis. But mark my words, Sarah is tired of being a good girl. And no one is better at breaking the rules and raising Cain than my son . . .

Listen to me going on and keeping customeres waiting. I best get back to work, but you come round again. The Cut 'n' Curl's got hot rollers, free coffee, and the best gossip in town.
See you real soon,
Ruby Rhodes

Review: I've always been into sport romances, but I've never tried out a race car driver one before. Boy have I been missing out! This book was such a cute read and I absolutely loved Tulane. He was so irresistible with his good looks and talent on the race track. Not to mention what a sweet person he ended up being under his bad boy exterior. Sarah was the perfect good girl to break down Tulane's defenses and bring out the good, sweet nature in him. Every single person in Last Chance was so cute and caring that I just couldn't get enough of that town! It seems like the perfect place to go, fall in love, and settle down in. I really liked seeing Tulane in the setting of his home and open up to Sarah like he never had to any other girl. Everything about this book was adorable and it was just a feel-good read. For a light romance, I'd highly recommend picking this one up. You won't regret it one bit.
