Oh, wow. This was such a miss for me and I am so sad it was. When I started this book, I thought the premise was so promising with how Katrina is a super private person, has anxiety, and hates attention, so when she goes viral, her bodyguard whisks her away to his farm house hours away. A bodyguard romance!? YES. Sadly, this book ended up being so boring and the romance was overshadowed by other storylines.

The story in this book was very slow moving and I hated how we still have a lot of unknowns about these characters' pasts. Katrina is a very complex character, but I feel like her backstory was not developed to its full potential. I still have questions about her relationship with her deceased husband and what happened to her that has scared her from having attention on her again. Then, with Jas's character, we didn't really get his full story until almost the very end and I wish that we had that in the beginning. There was drama currently happening the related to his past, but we only got conversations about it, not any confrontation with it or something more substantial.

As for the romance, it was sweet, but it didn't really go anywhere. Jas's issues with his family overshadowed his romance and I didn't really find myself caring about when Jas and Katrina were going to get together. There wasn't really a spark for me and I was more bored that anything while reading. While I really enjoyed The Right Swipe, I just wasn't a fan of this book.
Two years after losing her fiancé, Sloan Monroe still can't seem to get her life back on track. But one trouble-making pup with a "take me home" look in his eyes is about to change everything. With her new pet by her side, Sloan finally starts to feel more like herself. Then, after weeks of unanswered texts, Tucker's owner reaches out. He's a musician on tour in Australia. And bottom line: He wants Tucker back.

Well, Sloan's not about to give up her dog without a fight. But what if this Jason guy really loves Tucker? As their flirty texts turn into long calls, Sloan can't deny a connection. Jason is hot and nice and funny. There's no telling what could happen when they meet in person. The question is: With his music career on the rise, how long will Jason really stick around? And is it possible for Sloan to survive another heartbreak?
I know that people have mixed feelings over The Friend Zone, but I was a huge fan of that romance. After what happened to Sloan's character in that book, I was very excited to see her find her own happily ever after.

Sloan is having a hard time moving on. Life has been at a standstill for two years until an adorable pup literally falls into her life. I loved how this book started out with Sloan breaking down her walls with this dog that came into her life. Then, her and Jason start communicating through text because the dog is his, which was so adorable. Sloan was able to let Jason in through a less intimidating form of communication and I loved how they started to fall through text from halfway across the world. The romance was so sweet and endearing.

Speaking of sweet, can we talk about Jason!?!? He was the sweetest hero and would do anything to make Sloan comfortable and give her space. I loved how dedicated he was to her and how their relationship progressed. SWOOOON. And if you love rockstar romances, you will love this. Jason's fame definitely comes into play with their relationship and they have a lot to figure out about that.

Overall, I really loved this romance. Something that happened at the end wasn't my favorite, but other than that, I devoured this romance and couldn't recommend it enough!
I love Charleigh Rose. We all know that. But when I started this book, it was really hard for me to get into. I felt like we had every high school bully romance cliche thrown at us and I, at this point, didn't really care. I have been having a really hard time enjoying high school bully romances lately and I don't know if it's me or that genre is just becoming too overdone at this point. However, when we got to about the halfway mark and Thayer started to talk about his emotions more, I was really hooked on this book.

I would say the latter 50% of the book made this a 4 star read instead of a 3 star read for me. I really enjoyed how we got a genuine answer for why Thayer was being mean to Shayne and how he didn't do anything that was not consensual or unforgivable. When things became more intimate, Shayne was giving consent and they were genuinely into each other. I did also like how there was a mystery over what had happened in this past a year ago and how that all came to light at the end.

I will say that I think more flashbacks between Thayer and Shayne before things ruined their relationships would have made the connection between them more understandable to the reader. We only really get the prologue and that's it and we're supposed to believe they had this whole tension build up between them before Thayer went away for a year. Overall, if you love the high school bully trope, you should definitely give this a try. If you're over that genre or have read too many, you might want to skip this one.
In this fresh and hilarious historical rom-com, an estranged husband and wife in Regency England feign accidents and illness in an attempt to gain attention—and maybe just win each other back in the process.

Five years ago, Lady Violet Grey and Lord James Audley met, fell in love, and got married. Four years ago, they had a fight to end all fights, and have barely spoken since.

Their once-passionate love match has been reduced to one of cold, detached politeness. But when Violet receives a letter that James has been thrown from his horse and rendered unconscious at their country estate, she races to be by his side—only to discover him alive and well at a tavern, and completely unaware of her concern. She’s outraged. He’s confused. And the distance between them has never been more apparent.

Wanting to teach her estranged husband a lesson, Violet decides to feign an illness of her own. James quickly sees through it, but he decides to play along in an ever-escalating game of manipulation, featuring actors masquerading as doctors, threats of Swiss sanitariums, faux mistresses—and a lot of flirtation between a husband and wife who might not hate each other as much as they thought. Will the two be able to overcome four years of hurt or will they continue to deny the spark between them?

With charm, wit, and heart in spades, To Have and To Hoax is a fresh and eminently entertaining romantic comedy—perfect for fans of Jasmine Guillory and Julia Quinn.
I am a huge historical romance fan and this cover definitely caught my eye. This sounded like it was going to be an adorable romance between a bickering married couple and I was excited to read their story.

When this started, I thought the romance was so cute. Something had happened four years ago, one year into their marriage, that caused Violet and James to hate each other and barely speak to each other. When Violet gets a letter that James is hurt and might never wake up, she freaks out and jumps to be by his side. When he recovers quite quickly, they're both mad at each other for their reactions, which sparks the need to toy with each other for the rest of the book. Their banter was cute, but I do wish that we knew what caused their rift a bit earlier on. It was some big mystery as to why they both felt betrayed and we didn't get the reasoning until well into the story.

As James and Violet continue to play games with each other, I definitely became annoyed by how much they refused to talk to each other. If they just had a conversation four years ago on the night they argued, this whole book would have been avoided. The rest of this book only continues because they just won't have an honest conversation with one another. If you do not like the miscommunication trope, you are going to be annoyed reading this. At the end of the book, everything wrapped up a little too neatly as both characters had their confrontations with people who have wronged them and it felt too forced for me.

While this was a cute story in the beginning, the middle and the end of this story more annoyed me than not and I just wanted the characters to talk already. Sadly, this one wasn't as endearing as I wanted it to be.
I adore Kandi and every book she writes. I am so sad that this is the end of the Becker Brother series, but what a series it's been! We've had almost every trope of romance within these books, so I was excited to have the workplace romance between a high school football coach and the new trainer!

Jordan is the oldest Becker Brother, adopted, and the coach of a state-winning football team. He is under an enormous amount of pressure to win again and knows that his gorgeous new trainer is going to be a distraction to the players. I absolutely loved Sydney's character and how she was finally living life the way she wanted to after divorcing her abusive husband. Her daughter was so adorable and I loved how Jordan helped her out with football since she was determined to play, even though she's a girl. Family is such an integral part to this series and I loved all of the family relationships we got.

As for the romance, it was super sweet and I enjoyed how both Sydney and Jordan had to take down their own walls to trust each other in a relationship. Was it anything special? Not really. But it was sweet. I do think that the mystery surrounding Jordan's dad that has been building all series kind of overshadowed the romance and I didn't like how it played out as more of a soap opera. It just felt too melodramatic and I wasn't a fan of that plot line that carried throughout the series.

Overall, this is just a great, sweet romance series with an adorable family that I am obsessed with. All of the books are different and if you love a book for all of the relationships within the story, you will love the Becker Brothers series.
Exploring the psychological dynamics of the relationship between a precocious yet naïve teenage girl and her magnetic and manipulative teacher, a brilliant, all-consuming read that marks the explosive debut of an extraordinary new writer.

2000. Bright, ambitious, and yearning for adulthood, fifteen-year-old Vanessa Wye becomes entangled in an affair with Jacob Strane, her magnetic and guileful forty-two-year-old English teacher.

2017. Amid the rising wave of allegations against powerful men, a reckoning is coming due. Strane has been accused of sexual abuse by a former student, who reaches out to Vanessa, and now Vanessa suddenly finds herself facing an impossible choice: remain silent, firm in the belief that her teenage self willingly engaged in this relationship, or redefine herself and the events of her past. But how can Vanessa reject her first love, the man who fundamentally transformed her and has been a persistent presence in her life? Is it possible that the man she loved as a teenager—and who professed to worship only her—may be far different from what she has always believed?

Alternating between Vanessa’s present and her past, My Dark Vanessa juxtaposes memory and trauma with the breathless excitement of a teenage girl discovering the power her own body can wield. Thought-provoking and impossible to put down, this is a masterful portrayal of troubled adolescence and its repercussions that raises vital questions about agency, consent, complicity, and victimhood. Written with the haunting intimacy of The Girls and the creeping intensity of Room, My Dark Vanessais an era-defining novel that brilliantly captures and reflects the shifting cultural mores transforming our relationships and society itself.

When this book first showed up from the publisher, I had never heard of it before. I looked it up on Goodreads and realized it was a highly anticipated book for the book community and that it was about a student/teacher relationship. As a teacher, I definitely have a different perspective on this topic and I was interested to see how this author, who has experienced a kind of trauma herself during her youth, would approach the topic.

Throughout this book, you really see Vanessa fall into the trap her teacher built and be manipulated by a man in power. This does not at all glorify student/teacher relationships like so many other books and shows and movies do. Instead, this book shows how a man grooms a young girl and how that young girl carries that trauma for the rest of her life. I could not put this book down but not because I enjoyed it and was craving more; the story was engrossing and explored the emotions and confusion of a girl who is taken advantage of.

To me, the ending was perfect and when I finished this book, I had to stop and just think. We hear so much about abuse and trauma in the media and it's easy to see these women as just another victim. This book, though, shows us that these women all have different experiences and are truly affected for life because of what they have gone through. Especially because of the world we are living in today, I think that My Dark Vanessa is a book everyone should pick up.

Blurb:
I was settin’ up to live a good life, the kinda life I’d fought hard to deserve.
With a good woman––the best woman––at my side, a degree under my belt, and the whole world at my feet, I was livin’ the kinda happily ever after usually denied the rebellious and the criminal. I’d turned my back on that kinda life, thinkin’ I needed that clean, wholesome kinda happy.
Then the devil came dressed in the wings of an angel and took someone from me.
And I realized I was wrong.
There was no clean and wholesome for a man like me with poetry in his heart and outlaw in his blood. The life I’d been livin’ was only purgatory, holding me over until the time came for me to descend into Hell and pick up the tarnished crown that awaited me.
I was condemning my woman to a life of violence, blood, and heartache, but I had to hope she’d step up and finally be the rough and tumble queen to my Fallen MC king.
After the Fall can be read as a stand-alone romance, but you first meet the couple in Lessons in Corruption (The Fallen Men, #1)

After reading and LOVING The Bromance Book Club last year, I was so excited for Liv and Mack's story. Mack was so endearing in book one and I was so ready for this hate to love romance.

When this book started, I knew we would have a more serious storyline with Liv trying to take down a boss who sexually harasses his employees. Unfortunately, though, I feel like that storyline really took over the plot and we didn't get as much connection to the romance as I wanted. Liv and Mack fight so much and their romance is really slow, but not necessarily slow burn. I didn't really feel the chemistry between them and was missing that connection. Liv was a very closed off person, but I felt like she was way too hard on Mack, especially near the end where she was mad at him for keeping secrets. She was hypocritical and I wasn't a fan how that was used to spur on the conflict.

Because so much of the plot was focused on the guy that Liv and Mack were trying to bring down, I also think this book dragged too much at the end. We were already at 280 pages and things were dragged out another 60 and I was ready for the story to end. I wish there was more to Mack and Liv's romance and that there was more with the book club like in the first book. They only read one small snippet from a romantic suspense and didn't correlate the fake book to their current situation as much, which is something I had loved from book one.

While I still did enjoy this book, I was left more bored than not and just wanted more. I am definitely still excited about the next book and being back in this world of lovable and adorable characters.

Calla Fletcher returns to Toronto a different person, struggling to find direction and still very much in love with the rugged bush pilot she left behind. I absolutely LOVED The Simple Wild and all of the angst between Calla and Jonah. Enemies to lovers romances are my favorite and that combined with Calla reconnecting with her father made me an emotional mess. I could not wait to see how their story would continue in this book!

While we got angst and enemies in book one, this book was just....domestic? And I didn't care. We get half of this book about Calla shopping for furniture for her house. Seriously? There was not a lot of the angsty romance I wanted and I really started not to like Calla. She complained the whole time, wouldn't communicate with Jonah, and would not figure out how to make a life for herself separate from a man. She knew living in Alaska would be hard and didn't really try to make a life for herself there; she depended on Jonah and threw a fit when he was busy flying, which SHE TOLD HIM TO DO.

The only thing I enjoyed about this book was Calla's relationship with Roy. That was so sweet and the only relationship I actually cared about throughout the story. Calla and Jonah weren't really interacting a lot and we didn't get their adorable bickering. This book felt so much more like women's fiction to me and I just didn't care a majority of the time. I barely felt any romance and Calla was annoying when she would get jealous and possessive and angry at Jonah. While I will continue to love book one, I could have done without this book.
I absolutely love Monica James' dark romances, so when I saw she had a new duet coming out, and after seeing that gorgeous cover, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book.

This book starts the day that Bullseye gets released from jail and I was immediately intrigued by his character. We knew that he was out for revenge, but we don't know what that revenge was until about 20% into the book. I love myself a damaged hero and Bullseye is as damaged as they come. I loved how we were slowly given information about his past and those flashbacks were just heartbreaking to read. I was actually rooting for Bullseye to get his revenge even though it was totally illegal and brutal.

When it came to the romance, I did enjoy how Lily and Bullseye kind of circled each other until they couldn't resist their attraction anymore. I was intrigued by Lily and wished we got more of her as a mom. I feel like we only got to know her with Bullseye or at her two jobs (one as a dance teacher and one as a stripper), but we didn't see a lot of her actually with her son, which was a big part of her identity. While the ending definitely left me wanting book two ASAP, I did see that twist coming super early into the book, which took this book down a star for me. Other than that, though, I really enjoyed this romance and how both characters were trying to ignore their feelings because of the baggage they both carry.

As usual, Monica James pulled me in with her dark and twisted romance. She knows how to create dark but utterly seductive bad boys that you can't help but love. I did not want to put this book down and am eagerly anticipating the next book!
Calla Fletcher returns to Toronto a different person, struggling to find direction and still very much in love with the rugged bush pilot she left behind. When Jonah arrives on her doorstep with a proposition she can’t dismiss, she takes the leap and rushes back to Alaska to begin their exciting future together.

But Calla soon learns that even the best intentions can lead to broken promises, and that compromise comes with a hefty price—a log cabin in interior rural Alaska that feels as isolating as the western tundra.

With Jonah gone more than he’s home, one neighbor who insists on transforming her into a true Alaskan, and another who seems more likely to shoot her than come to her aid, Calla grapples with forging her own path. In a world with roaming wildlife that has her constantly watching over her shoulder and harsh conditions that stretch far beyond the cold, dark, winter months, just stepping outside her front door can be daunting.

This is not the future Calla had in mind, leaving her to fear that perhaps she is doomed to follow in her mother’s fleeing footsteps after all.

EMORY

They call it Blackchurch. A secluded mansion in a remote, undisclosed location where the wealthy and powerful send their misbehaving sons to cool off away from prying eyes.

Will Grayson has always been an animal, though. Reckless, wild, and someone who was never bound by a single rule other than to do exactly what he wanted. There was no way his grandfather was going to risk him humiliating the family again.

Not that the last time was entirely his fault. He might’ve enjoyed backing me into corners in high school when no one was looking, so they wouldn’t catch on that Mr. Popular actually wanted a piece of that quiet, little nerd he loved to torture so much, but…

He could also be warm. And fierce in keeping me safe.

The truth is… He has a right to hate me.

It’s all my fault. Everything.

Devils Night. The videos. The arrests.

I’m to blame for all of it.

And I regret nothing.

WILL

I never minded being locked up. I learned a long time ago that being treated like an animal gives you permission to act like one. No one has ever looked at me any other way.

Their only mistake is believing anything I do is an accident. I can sit in this house with no Internet, television, liquor, or girls, but I’ll come out of here with something far more frightening to my enemies.

A plan.

And a new pack of wolves.

I just didn’t expect one of my enemies to come to me.

I don’t know who smuggled her in or if they meant to leave her here, but I can smell her hiding in the house. She’s here.

And as the security detail leaves the supplies, the gates close, and the door to my gilded cage opens, giving me free reign of the house and grounds for another unsupervised month, I remember with a smile…

Blackchurch houses five prisoners. I’m only one of her problems.

Praying for Rain was one of my favorite books of 2019, so I have been DYING to read more to see what would happen next after that ending. I was so in love with the romance between Wes and Rain as the end of the world approached and I couldn't wait to get more of them in this book.

Page one begins literally right where book one left off. We are dropped right into the action, but that action quickly declined until the story kind of went stagnant for a little bit. When a certain thing happen in this book, we get Rain moping around for a good 40% of the novel. I loved the nonstop action and the angsty romance in book one. We didn't get enough of that in this book, but I definitely have a feeling we'll go right back to that in book three based on how this book ended.

What I did enjoy, though, was watching Rain survive in a whole new situation and finally dealing with the emotional trauma from book one. Our main characters were thrown into an entirely new situation and they had to figure out how to survive while still recovering from everything they experienced from the first book. I still loved Wes so much in this book and cannot wait to see how things wrap up in the final book!
Critically acclaimed author Mia Sosa delivers a sassy, steamy enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy about a woman whose new job requires her to work side-by-side with the best man who ruined her wedding: her ex-fiancé's infuriating, irritating, annoyingly handsome brother. Perfect for fans of Jasmine Guillory, Helen Hoang, and Sally Thorne!

A wedding planner left at the altar. Yeah, the irony isn’t lost on Carolina Santos, either. But despite that embarrassing blip from her past, Lina’s managed to make other people’s dreams come true as a top-tier wedding coordinator in DC. After impressing an influential guest, she’s offered an opportunity that could change her life. There’s just one hitch… she has to collaborate with the best (make that worst) man from her own failed nuptials.

Tired of living in his older brother’s shadow, marketing expert Max Hartley is determined to make his mark with a coveted hotel client looking to expand its brand. Then he learns he’ll be working with his brother’s whip-smart, stunning—absolutely off-limits—ex-fiancée. And she loathes him.

If they can survive the next few weeks and nail their presentation without killing each other, they’ll both come out ahead. When I started this book, I was loving this story and these characters. Nothing gets me like a good enemies to lovers romance and Lina really hated Max when he encourages his brother to break up with her on their wedding day. Flash forward five years and Lina and Max have to work together on a project that could earn Lina the job of a lifetime. Of course, she wants to keep Max as far away as possible, but Max is determined to do his fair share and help her win the job.

My favorite part of this book was when Max and Lina had to pretend to be a couple and it gave me so many Unhoneymooners vibes. Lina was trying everything to push Max's buttons and test him, but he took everything in stride. Their bantering was so fun and I loved how Max genuinely liked Lina and wanted her to see he wasn't a good guy. I also loved how they were working on wedding planning! I love movies and books surrounded around weddings, so I enjoyed how Lina was working on weddings throughout the book.

When Lina decided she didn't like Max anymore, I kind of...lost some interest in the romance? I love enemies to loves and the angst that comes with that. Once they're done hating each other, that angst and tension is over and I wanted it to last a little bit longer. I also wasn't a fan of the overly malicious character at the end that felt like more of a soap opera conflict. So I loved the first half and enjoyed the second half. But if you want a fun enemies to lovers, pick this one up!
A generation past, the western realms were embroiled in endless war. Then the Destroyer came. From the blood and ashes he left behind, a tenuous alliance rose between the barbarian riders of Parsathe and the walled kingdoms of the south. That alliance is all that stands against the return of an ancient evil—until the barbarian king and queen are slain in an act of bloody betrayal.

Though forbidden by the alliance council to kill the corrupt king responsible for his parents’ murders, Maddek vows to avenge them, even if it costs him the Parsathean crown. But when he learns it was the king’s daughter who lured his parents to their deaths, the barbarian warrior is determined to make her pay.

Yet the woman Maddek captures is not what he expected. Though the last in a line of legendary warrior-queens, Yvenne is small and weak, and the sharpest weapons she wields are her mind and her tongue. Even more surprising is the marriage she proposes to unite them in their goals and to claim their thrones—because her desire for vengeance against her father burns even hotter than his own…
As soon as I saw this book was releasing in 2020, it went on my most anticipated releases of the year. A barbarian fantasy romance? I NEED IT NOW.

When this book started, it was definitely a slower start as we got introduced to this fantasy world. I don't think I was really invested in the tory until Maddek and Yvenne actually met and the chemistry between them instantly started sizzling between them. I absolutely loved the enemies to lovers in this one and how Maddek and Yvenne tried so hard to act like they didn't like each other or weren't attracted to one another. The more they started to like each other, the more I wanted them to just be together already for real.

There are a lot of politics in this book and it did take me a bit to wrap my head around them. Honestly, I really only cared about the romance and how Yvenne was going to get revenge on her brothers and father. I do think it didn't need to be over 500 pages for this book, but I did like the slow burn of the romance and how hard Maddek tried to fight any feelings he started to feel for Yvenne. If you're a fan of fantasy romance, you definitely have to pick this book up!
A few of my friends on Instagram love this series and I couldn't wait to read this friends to lovers romance!

When I first started this book, I loved how Clarke and Audrey were truly best friends who wanted the best for one another. They had never looked at each other in a romantic way and decided to put each other first and pretend to be engaged. Only when they had to pretend to be in love did feelings emerge, and I loved seeing them both deal with those newfound feelings. Both Clarke and Audrey thought they knew what they wanted out of life, but they slowly realized that those priorities can change with the right person.

While the main couple was fantastic, I also loved all of the friends of both Audrey and Clarke. Now I'm definitely dying to pick up the first two books to see those couples fall in love. They added some fun insights to Audrey and Clarke's relationship and were very protective over their friends.

If you can't tell, this was a super fun and quick read that I couldn't put down. It's also fade to black when it comes to the intimate scenes between our main couple, so if you just want an adorable, sweet friends to lovers romance, you have to pick this up.

Growing up, I was fascinated with Mount Everest and fictional survival stories taking place there. After I read The Kingmaker by Kennedy Ryan and loved the parts when the main character was in Antarctica, Kennedy Ryan recommended this book! I immediately went to netgalley to request a copy and couldn't wait to start this romantic suspense.

When this book started, it took me a few chapters to really get into the story and actually want to start reading. I was a little confused by what was going on, but as soon as the bad guys made themselves known, boy was I invested in these characters and their ability to survive. I loved how Ford and Angel had this attraction to one another that Ford refused to act on. Now, they have to trek across Antarctica together to survive and those scenes were CRAZY. Antarctica is beautiful and terrifying, so I had no idea how those two were going to walk over two hundred miles together and make it out alive.

If you're a fan of a romantic suspense novel with a slow burn romance, you're going to love this so much. It reminded me of an 80s survival/action movie and I could not stop reading. Ford is a cold, brooding man and I loved how he slowly decided to let Angel in. Definitely pick this book up if you want a good survival story in the freezing cold while the characters slowly fall for each other.
When Willow moves into my neighborhood, nothing should have happened. She’s geeky. Shy. A true wallflower.
Willow is a good girl.
Too good for me.
And how the hell was I supposed to know that she’s related to Loren Hale—yeah, that douchebag celebrity that lives on my street. The same guy I've been pranking by spray painting vulgar words on his mailbox and worse. Much worse.
Don't ask me why I do the things I do.
Don't ask me why it had to be her.

And yet. . .I still want to touch her.
Whatever It Takes is the first book in the Bad Reputation Duet and can be read and enjoyed without reading any of Krista & Becca's other novels.

Ummm where do I start? First, thank you so much to Penelope and Social Butterfly PR for the review copy. It was an amazing surprise and I am so thankful I get to support one of my favorite authors!

And though Penelope is one of my absolute favorite authors, I have to be brutally honest. This book is NOT going to be for everyone. And almost wasn't for me. Almost. But I honestly think it was Penelope's writing and storytelling that kept me hooked and not wanting to put this book down.

Going in, I knew this girl was moving into the mountains with three men. A dad and two sons (both over 20). We have no idea who her love interest is going to be. I was not expecting Penelope Douglas to push the envelope with this one, but boy did she. I loved the chemistry she built between Tiernan and all three of the men she was living with. I truly believed there was an attraction with every man and was fanning myself on more than one occasion when things steamed up between Tiernan and one of the guys. That being said, I do think Jake and Noah were developed much more than Kaleb's character was. I found nothing appealing about Kaleb, especially because he was characterized as this barbaric animal for so long throughout the book. We don't even meet him until about 20% in and then don't get any real growth from him until at least 70%. I felt much more connected to the two other guys, so when we followed Kaleb some more, I lost that sense of connection.

This book definitely took me out of my comfort zone, but I seriously did love it. Like I said, if any other author wrote it, I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much. But since Penelope knows how to build some angst, tension, and INSANE heat between her characters, I could not put this book down.

Tiernan de Haas doesn’t care about anything anymore. The only child of a film producer and his starlet wife, she’s grown up with wealth and privilege but not love or guidance.

Growing up, Ramsey Stewart branded my soul in ways time could never heal.

At twelve, he asked me to be his girlfriend.

At thirteen, he gave me my first kiss.

By sixteen, we’d fallen in love, planned a future together, and had our eyes set on the horizon.

Love never fails, right?

But for Ramsey, it did.

Love failed him.

I failed him.

The entire world failed him.

At seventeen, Ramsey was convicted of killing the boy who assaulted me.

Move on,he wrote in his first and only letter from prison.

Start a new life, he urged.

I don’t love you anymore, he lied.

There was no such thing as giving up on Ramsey. Love may have been our curse, but he was mine—then, now, and forever.

So here I am, twelve long years later, waiting for a man I don't even know to emerge from between the chain link gates.

Going into this one, I decided to not even read the synopsis and go in blind. When it started, I enjoyed how the author decided to show us how the two characters met and how their friendship bloomed over their childhood. All you knew in the beginning was that the guy was in prison and had cut off communication from the main character. We get to see Ramsey and Thea learn to really trust each other when they're young, become best friends, and then become lovers. The relationship in this was very strong and this book was as much about their development as it was about their second chance in the future.

I was surprised that their past took up about half of the book. Normally, when a couple shares a past that's important, the author usually gives us about 20% of the book on the past. Instead, we didn't get to see Thea and Ramsey trying to understand their relationship when he's released from jail until halfway through the book. That being said, I wish we got more of them in this stage of their relationship. I felt like we watched them in agony over how to be together again and, once they were, it was just over. If we got more of them trying navigate the world actually being together, I would have loved this even more.

I will say, there were definitely some surprises thrown into this book that I was not at all expecting. I was very invested in Thea and Ramsey's relationship and would recommend this if you want an emotional second chance romance!

When librarian Poe Markham takes the job at Thornchapel, she only wants two things: to stay away from Thornchapel’s tortured owner, Auden Guest, and to find out what happened to her mother twelve years ago. It should be easy enough—keep her head down while she works in the house’s crumbling private library and while she hunts down any information as to why this remote manor tucked into the fog-shrouded moors would be the last place her mother was seen alive. But Thornchapel has other plans for her...

As Poe begins uncovering the house’s secrets, both new and old, she’s also pulled into the seductive, elegant world of Auden and his friends—and drawn to Auden’s worst enemy, the beautiful and brooding St. Sebastian. And as Thornchapel slowly tightens its coil of truths and lies around them, Poe, Auden and St. Sebastian start unravelling into filthy, holy pleasure and pain. Together, they awaken a fate that will either anoint them or leave them in ashes…
I tried to go into this one with not too high of expectations. We all saw this book take over booktube and bookstagram and everyone was just RAVING about it. I didn't want to overhype it for myself, but I was definitely excited to finally pick it up.

When this book began, I was sucked into the story. I absolutely loved the gothic setting in an old English mansion and a ruined chapel. There was a lot of mystery and magic and intrigue surrounding what happened there 12 years ago and now with the six kids are back as adults. I really like that we got first person POV with Poe, but we also got 3rd person limited chapters for the other characters. Poe was so intriguing and unique and I loved her dilemma and struggle to come to terms with her feelings for both Saint and Auden. The relationships in this book were so interwoven and complicated and I loved it!

That being said, this book was definitely more of a relationship driven novel. With the mysterious atmosphere and this ritual looming in the future, I did expect more of a plot and more secrets to come to light. There were some secrets revolving around the family and, seeing as Poe was working the library, I expected so many more answers and a much more complex past than we got. While I know that we have a book two and will probably get some more answers, I wish it had a more complex level of secrets and answers than what we got.

I'm so happy I finally read this book. I am definitely intrigued by what's going to happen in book two. If you want a unique romance that doesn't stray away from the steam, you have to pick this up.

I HAVE FOUND AN ALL-TIME NEW FAVORITE BOOK AND I AM DECEASED.

Seriously. This book wasn't even on my radar until I saw my friends Lacey and Chandler talking about this series. I immediately put it on my wishlist and didn't even hesitate to pick it up when I received it as a gift. I was a die-hard Twilight fan in high school and this book gave me all of those feels and so much more. I absolutely loved the pack (this is paranormal-werewolves) and the importance of the pack to these people. Your pack is your family and you make your family. The bonds in this book were just so strong and I was just obsessed and in love with every single one of the characters.

As for the characters, Ox is such a special character that I will cherish forever. I absolutely adored him when we met him in the beginning and he felt like he wasn't special. The way he developed and really came into his own in this book was just so endearing and I just wanted to give him a big hug. Then, his SUPER slow burn and angsty romance with Joe was EVERYTHING and I was rooting for that ship from the start. I think TJ Klune handled their relationship very well and developed it (from when Joe was 10 and Ox was 16) very tastefully and realistically. At no point did I feel grossed out by the age difference, which is important considering the characters are so young when this book begins.

Like I said, I adored everything about this book. The book is very character driven and the plot is slow at times, but I never felt bored or disinterested. The slow parts of this book were so important to the plot and allowed characters to develop and relationships to solidify. I loved the paranormal aspects of this story and am already dying to read book two so I can see more of my favorite characters. You HAVE to pick up this book and fall head over heels for these characters.

How does Kennedy Ryan continue to write breathtaking romances while making such important, impactful messages in the process? I absolutely loved The Kingmaker and knew that The Rebel King would be no different!

After that cliffhanger of book one, I knew we would be in for a ride in this book. I loved how this started out as more of a suspenseful book and I honestly had no idea how our characters were going to make it out of that situation. Nothing was drawn out, though, which I really appreciated. So much happened in this romance and really tested Lennix and Maxim's relationship. I loved how much they went through in book one and how much they were fighting to stay together in this book. That relationship is so strong and I was in awe over how much that respected each other and would sacrifice everything for one another.

While I'm really not a fan of political books, Kennedy Ryan wrote this in a way where I felt like there wasn't a strong political message she was trying to shove down our throat. I really appreciated the look at Native American culture and injustices, but she tastefully looked at the political climate of the US and didn't try to show how everything could be "fixed." I loved how Lennix was working on the presidential election and how important that was to her life. Maxim's support was so endearing and I enjoyed how closely they had to work and prioritize different aspects of their lives and their relationship.

Overall, this duet was AMAZING and unlike anything I've read. I loved the power and pride we got from Lennix's character and the power and passion we got from Maxim's character. These are two people I won't forget anytime soon and this is a romance I will remember for a very long time.
