About the Author

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Denise Grover Swank was born in Kansas City, Missouri and lived in the area until she was nineteen. Then she became a nomadic gypsy, living in five cities, four states and ten houses over the course of ten years before she moved back to her roots. She speaks English and smattering of Spanish and Chinese, which she learned through an intensive Nick Jr. immersion period. Her hobbies include witty (in her own mind) Facebook comments and dancing in her kitchen with her children. (Quite badly if you believe her offspring.) Hidden talents include the gift of justification and the ability to drink massive amounts of caffeine and still fall asleep within two minutes. Her lack of the sense of smell allows her to perform many unspeakable tasks. She has six children and hasn't lost her sanity. Or so she leads you to believe

Book Review: The Bachelor Contract by Rachel Van Dyken

The Bachelor Contract (The Bachelors of Arizona #3)
by Rachel Van Dyken
Release Date: November 28, 2017
Source: Publisher
She's everywhere.

Ex-wife.

Love of his life.

The last person in the world he wanted to see...ever.

And now that he's working beside her every day, he can't escape her. Her scent, glimpses of her smile, even the tension in the air that makes his body hum with the kind of need he'd only experienced with one person-all of it is driving him over the edge.

Brant Wellington was certain of three things:

Alcohol wasn't going to solve this.

He really was losing his F-ing mind.

And his gorgeous ex-wife was going to be the death of him.

I own quite a few books by Rachel Van Dyken, but I think this is the first book I've ever picked up by her. This sounded like a sweet, emotional second chance romance and I couldn't wait to dive in.

Nikki's life is as good as it's going to get. Since losing her sight and her ex-husband, Brant, she's settled for working as a masseuse at a prestigious hotel with her best friend, Cole. The last time she saw Brant, they were both broken beyond repair and he never came back to fix her. When Brant shows up at the hotel to check the staff and amenities, the last person he expects to see is his ex-wife. He can never forgive himself for what he put her through and he'll do anything to leave her alone. But Nikki is everywhere and Brant soon realizes the only way to fix them both is to show her the kind of man he can be that is worth her love.

From the first page, this book was emotional. And I mean REALLY emotional. These two characters went through so much pain together and it was so sad watching them relive that pain every time they were around each other. Every flashback sprinkled throughout this story made my heart ache and I wished I could just hug Nikki and Brant. I've got to say, though, that the moment we met Brant in the present, I really wasn't a fan. And as the story went on and he was quite the jerk to everyone, including Nikki, I continued to dislike him. Even when he started to grovel for Nikki's love again, I had no sympathy for him and didn't really want Nikki to even think about giving him a chance again.

I really did love Nikki's best friend, Cole, and their fun relationship. It was so sad watching Nikki wish she could just fall for someone like Cole because it would make life so much easier. Cole was so funny and it was entertaining how he would flirt with Nikki and ask her out just to make her smile. The rest of the staff we met were so nice and Brant's family was definitely entertaining!

While I loved Nikki, Brant was so hard for me to like and, even when we got to the end, I didn't think he redeemed himself in my eyes. This really did hit you in the feels from the first page, though, and delivered an emotional second chance romance between two people who broke each other and are trying to be whole again.

Book Review: Show Me the Way by AL Jackson

Show Me the Way (Fight for Me #1)
by AL Jackson
Release Date: October 2, 2017
Source: Author
The first sexy, captivating, stand-alone novel in the brand-new FIGHT FOR ME series from NYT & USA Today Bestselling Author A.L. Jackson . . .

Rex Gunner. As bitter as he is beautiful.

The owner of the largest construction company in Gingham Lakes has been burned one too many times. His wife leaving him to raise their daughter was the last blow this single dad could take. The only woman he’ll let into his heart is his little girl.

Rynna Dayne. As vulnerable as she is tempting.

She ran from Gingham Lakes when she was seventeen. She swore to herself she would never return. Then her grandmother passed away and left her the deed to the diner that she once loved.

When Rex meets his new neighbor, he knows he’s in trouble.

She’s gorgeous and sweet and everything he can’t trust.

Until she becomes the one thing he can’t resist.

One kiss sends them tumbling toward ecstasy.

But in a town this size, pasts are bound to collide. Caught in a web of lies, betrayal, and disloyalty, Rex must make a choice.

Will he hide behind his walls or will he take the chance . . .

When I first read the synopsis for Show Me the Way, I was so excited. This one promised an emotional single-parent romance and, knowing AL Jackson's previous books, I knew she would deliver on that emotion.

Rex Gunner is used to it being him and his little girl, and that's how he wants it. He's been hurt in the past and doesn't want to ever go through that again. That's why when his new neighbor barrels into his life, he'll do anything to ignore her and their instant attraction. The only probably? She's sweet and his daughter loves her. Rynna Dayne ran away from her small hometown as soon as she could, but she's forced back there after her grandmother passes away. She's intrigued by the brooding man next door and his adorable daughter, but can she break into a heart that is determined to never love again?

I've got to say, from the start, I wasn't that big of a fan of this relationship. They were SO over the top in their chemistry and how determined they were to fight it. I mean, they literally just met and cannot get over their insane attraction for one another. Once we got into the story, though, I really loved how Rynna just tried to be nice to Rex and brought him pies like her grandmother used to. It was cute how close she grew with his daughter and really ingrained herself into their lives, no matter how hard Rex pushed her away.

What really sold this book to me, though, was the plot twist I did not see coming near the end of the novel. There were some shocking moments and we slowly got to learn more about Rynna's horrible past that drove her out of the town in the first place. Not only were we dealing with Rex's emotional past over his wife leaving him, but we saw Rynna completely break in her past while showing us how much stronger she had grown since then.

I expected emotion when I went into this one, and boy did I get emotion! There was emotion from both of our main characters and the hurt they've both experienced and are still healing from. It was so hard watching Rex push Rynna away again and again until he finally realized what he was missing out on. For an emotional single-dad romance with the new girl next door, pick up Show Me the Way!

Yep, Matt's the last of his bachelor buddies, and plans on staying that way. That is, until he finds himself face-to-face with the woman who broke his heart.

That irresistible pull between them isn't over. Not even close. But if she's not careful, she'll break both their hearts . . . again.

I have been reading a lot of single parent books lately and I have been loving them. This one happens to be a second chance romance as well and I couldn't wait to read it!

Matt knew that Anna was the one as soon as they started dating in college. But when he proposed and thought they would spend the rest of their lives together, Anna bolts. All Matt wanted was to make Anna his wife and have kids, but Anna wasn't ready. Years later, Matt is coaching his five-year-old nephew's soccer team and loves his nephew like a son. When his nephew introduces Matt to his new best friend, the last child he expects to see is the child of Anna. Anna thought she new what she wanted when she moved to England, but she didn't expect to be a divorced single mother moving back to America to help her ill father. The last person she wants to see again is Matt, but the moment she sees him, she remembers just how much pain she put him through. Matt wants to stay mad at Anna for the pain she caused him, but when they start to spend more time together, the old feelings become impossible to ignore.

From the start, I was so in love with Matt and his desire to be a dad. He was such a good guy and such a good father figure for his nephew. And Anna took that all away from him when she left him for an independent future. When she comes back with a kid, my heart broke for Matt and what he could have had. Matt is honestly one of the good ones and I wanted him to have the family and children he so desperately wanted and watched all of his friends get.

As for Anna, my heart definitely went out to her and what she went through in England with her ex-husband. And even if she wanted to try something with Matt, she knew her whole life is back in England. Ugh. And can we talk about how freaking adorable her son was? I loved how close Anna's son and Matt's nephew grew and how their friendship brought the adults together. There were some very emotional moments, but also some moments where I was laughing out loud. I loved Anna and Matt's dynamic and how they remembered the good times they had while trying to work through the pain they both caused.

While I didn't read the previous books in this series, I loved this second chance romance between two people who only want the best for the little guys in their lives. The little boys in this book were so lovable and I appreciated how important family was to all of the characters in this book. For a sweet, second chance romance, you should pick up Always You.

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews where bloggers share what books they got throughout the week!

From Author

The lovely Lex Martin sent me a paperback copy of Shameless when she heard that my Youtube subscribers voted for me to read her book this month. I am so excited to have a physical copy and cannot wait to finally read it! I also got an e-arc of Man Hands by Sarina Bowen and Tanya Eby. I love Sarina Bowen's book so much, so I can't wait for a new book by her!

From Amazon (E-Book)

There were so many good e-book sales going on for Black Friday and I one-clicked these three! I have only read one book by Tarryn Fisher and am so intrigued by the other books she has written. I also have only read one book by J Daniels, but it was the first book in the Alabama Summers, so I didn't hesitate to buy book two when it was on sale!

That's it for me! What did you all add to your shelves this week?

Book Review: Him by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy

Him (Him #1)
by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy
Release Date: July 28, 2015
Source: Amazon
They don’t play for the same team. Or do they?

Jamie Canning has never been able to figure out how he lost his closest friend. Four years ago, his tattooed, wise-cracking, rule-breaking roommate cut him off without an explanation. So what if things got a little weird on the last night of hockey camp the summer they were eighteen? It was just a little drunken foolishness. Nobody died.

Ryan Wesley’s biggest regret is coaxing his very straight friend into a bet that pushed the boundaries of their relationship. Now, with their college teams set to face off at the national championship, he’ll finally get a chance to apologize. But all it takes is one look at his longtime crush, and the ache is stronger than ever.

Jamie has waited a long time for answers, but walks away with only more questions—can one night of sex ruin a friendship? If not, how about six more weeks of it? When Wesley turns up to coach alongside Jamie for one more hot summer at camp, Jamie has a few things to discover about his old friend... and a big one to learn about himself.

Warning: contains sexual situations, skinnydipping, shenanigans in an SUV and proof that coming out to your family on social media is a dicey proposition.

I have been going back and forth on reading this book for so long. I LOVE both Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy, but I never read M/M books. I've heard so many good things about this book, but it wasn't until I read the WAGs series and saw Jamie and Wes as side characters together that I knew I had to pick this book up.

Jamie Canning hasn't seen or spoken to Ryan Wesley in years. He doesn't know what he did to lose his best friend, but he's missed him as they've both worked their ways to the top of their college hockey teams. Wes regrets cutting off ties with Jamie four years ago after they crossed a line in their friendship that Wes wasn't sure they could come back from. Now that they're together again and not confused, teenage boys, Wes still doesn't know where he stands with Jamie. Could Jamie ever see him as more, or will he have to lose his best friend for a second time?

Starting off, I loved both Jamie and Wes's characters and their camaraderie with their teammates and friends. I definitely fell in love with them as individuals right off the bat. And since they were both college hockey players on their way to playing professional, we got so much hockey in this book and I loved it. Then, when they finally reenter each other's lives, I fangirled so hard over their relationship. What I think made their relationship so special was the fact that they were genuinely best friends before they ever became something more. Wes was such a hot-shot hockey player and so confident, but his hesitation and fear over his relationship with Jamie was so endearing. He had no idea if Jamie could ever see him as something more and it really freaked him out because Jamie was the only guy he had ever really loved.

When it comes to the physical side of their relationship, there was A LOT of sexy times between the two. If you're uncomfortable with that, definitely skip this book. But though there were lots of physical moments between Jamie and Wes, their relationship had such an emotional depth based on their pasts and exploration of their new relationship. Add on the fact that Wes didn't know how his new professional team would react to his sexual orientation and you have such a vulnerable side of Wes that makes you love him that much more. Both Jamie and Wes are exploring the unknown in their relationship and you are right there beside them as they figure it out.

After reading this book, I now understand the hype surrounding Jamie and Wes. Those guys are so endearing, charming, and lovable and I shipped them so hard as I was reading this book. I loved all of the hockey talk and play in this book alongside the men trying to just figure their lives out. If you want to be at all a part of team Wesmie, you HAVE to pick up this book!
