I really enjoyed Kennedy Fox's Checkmate series, so when I saw Lyra and Brooke were coming out with a book together under their real names, I knew that I had to read it. I love neighbors to lovers romances, as well as a good bad boy romance, so I was excited to pick this book up!
Vada writes romance for a living, even though she's been burned time and again by men. Lacking inspiration, she decides to rent a cottage to get away and write, but the last person she expects to open the door upon arrival is a hot bad boy with a bad mouth. Vada is infuriated with Ethan from the moment they meet while Ethan is intrigued with the spitfire that just arrived at his door. Vada doesn't know how she's going to survive the week, but one week is all they need to realize their chemistry doesn't come close to anything they've ever felt before.
I've got to say, from the moment we met Ethan, I really didn't like him. He would make really crass jokes that he then said really meant something else that was totally innocent. These jokes were funny at first, but the more he did it, the more forced they felt and I just wasn't a fan. Then, Ethan would get super emotional and serious and his character just wasn't constant throughout the story. As for Vada, I was confused by her character too. Sometimes she was feisty and sometimes she wasn't and I'm not sure how much I liked her either.
While the likability of the characters seemed to hinder my enjoyment of this story, I was also super confused over the emotion of their relationship. They were all about only using each other and then, BAM, there were serious feelings involved. Maybe it's because I read this book so fast or because the characters only spent a week together, but I didn't really feel enough development of their feelings and it seemed more insta-lovey to me. Then there was a huge jump in time at the end that threw the whole book for a loop. It messed up the pace for me and wasn't something I was expecting or helped validate their intense feelings for each other.
While this wasn't a bad book at all, there were just a few things that bothered me and didn't allow me to fully enjoy the book. Vada and Ethan's relationship definitely had a fun start and I did really love how Vada was an author while Ethan was an artist. If you want a fun, mindless read, then you'll probably end up enjoying My Week with the Bad Boy.

Lyra Parish loves to write, glamp, and sing obnoxiously loud at the top of her lungs in the shower. Sweet love stories (along with the dirty ones) make her gush. She is a firm believer that a person can never have too many cups of coffee, cats, or happily ever afters. When she isn’t busy writing with Brooke as Kennedy Fox, she can be found sipping various beverages from her non-alcoholic drink buffet, pimp slapping excel spreadsheets, or riding her bike. Lyra lives in Texas with her glassblowing, guitar-playing hubby and black cat named Nibbler.
