Book Review: Gilt Hollow by Lorie Langdon

Gilt Hollow
By Lorie Langdon
Release Date: September 27, 2016
Source: ALA
Willow Lamott’s best friend is a murderer, and no one in the small town of Gilt Hollow will let her forget it. For four long years, she’s tried to fade into the background—but none of that matters when Ashton Keller comes striding into school, fresh out of juvie and fueled by revenge. The moment their eyes meet, Willow no longer feels invisible. Drawn to the vulnerability behind Ashton’s mask of rage, she sinks deeper into his sinister world and begins to question whether he’s a villain, a savior, or both.

Ashton thought he wanted vengeance, until Willow reminded him what he’d been missing. Now he longs to clear his name and become the person she sees in him. But the closer they get to uncovering the truth, the darker the secrets become, and Ashton fears his return to Gilt Hollow will destroy everyone he loves, especially the girl he left behind.

I absolutely love Lorie Langdon as both a person and an author. I've had the pleasure of meeting her four times because she's an Ohio author and attends all of the Ohio author events. Each time it's so nice talking to her about her books and I definitely couldn't wait for the chance to read her newest release!

Ever since Willow's best friend was sent to jail for murdering one of their classmates, no one has let Willow forget. Willow has tried to continue on with her life, but when Ashton shows back up in Gilt Hollow determined to find out who really committed the murder he was found guilty for, Willow finds herself drawn back into her best friend's world. Ashton will do anything to show Willow he's the good guy he was before he went away. The closer they get to uncovering the truth about the murder four years ago, though, the more danger seems to follow them around every corner…

For the start of fall, this book was the perfect book to pick up. Talk about creepy! Ever since Ashton came back into town, Willow has been seeing some spooky things and receiving some spooky messages. I was definitely intrigued by the whole mystery behind who really committed the murder and who was trying to sabotage Ashton and get him sent back to jail. There were a lot of eery moments where you didn't know who was going to pop up around the corner or if the characters were going to make it out alive.

Of course, me being me, I was in this one for the romance and I really adored Ashton and Willow's relationship. Willow wrote to Ashton while he was in jail and it was so cute watching them get to know each other now that they were older and more mature. And how yummy Ashton had gotten since he was in jail? Yeah, no wonder Willow started to feel butterflies whenever he was around! I loved how they teamed up to solve the mysteries plaguing Gilt Hollow and how determined Willow was to help him, no matter how dangerous things became.

Overall, I really enjoyed Lorie Langdon's newest novel. While I felt like the big reveal could have been more *wow* at the end, I still really enjoyed the mystery, the suspense, and the adorable romance. If you're looking for a spooky read this fall and really love that good romance in your stories, you have to check out Gilt Hollow!
