Follow My Book Blog Friday (51)

This is a meme hosted every Friday by Parajunkee, where book bloggers answer a question each week and check out how others answered it. It's a cool way for bloggers and viewers to connect and learn more about each other!

Question: Worst cover? What's the worst cover of a book that you've read and loved?

Answer: I'm a sucker for a good book cover, so if it looks good, I'm bound to read it. If it doesn't look good, though, I'm really hesitant to pick it up. I haven't exactly read and loved a book with an awful cover, but I've gotten an edition that wasn't as good as another edition that's out there in the world. Here are a few examples:

I'm really not a fan of the first cover, which is the cover I ended up getting from the library. The second cover is so much prettier and really captures what the book is about. And this book was awesome, so I think people would be more likely to pick up the second cover over the first one.

I REALLY dislike the original covers of the Sookie Stackhouse books. I don't know why, they just look really weird and I would not be drawn to it if I ever saw it in a bookstore. I think the cover from the TV series is so cool and I would pick it up in a heartbeat.

And those are the only books I can think of! Like I said, if I ever see a book cover that is really offer, I will most likely not pick it up....

Covers are just as important as the stories themselves and I like to dedicate my time to the ones that intrigue me the most :) Hope you all have an awesome weekend!

  1. The first cover for The Secret Year is kind of awkward but I like the second one. And I agree about Dead Until Dark. Old follower :)

  2. I personally don't think any of the Charlaine Harris covers are real appealing. Just my two cents though. It's something about adult novel covers. I just don't get it.

  3. Hi Jessica, your blog is beautiful. And I just adore Captain Jack Sparrow! He almost managed to distracted me from those horrible covers! But not quite. I agree, the second cover The Secret Years is much better. And I don't like either of the Charliane Harris covers. I'm a new follower. you can find me at: http://todayinshenaya.blogspot.com

  4. Yeah, much easier to find comparatively bad covers than ones you actually hate, isn't it? New follower via GFC. My FFs are at Musings on Fantasia and LKHill. Happy Friday! :D

  5. Thanks for stopping by my Friday Blog Hop! I agree about the Sookie Stackhouse books. They always looked like strange and amateurish drawings of vampires to me.

  10. Oh wow. I actually like the original covers for the Southern Vampire novels--still call them that! Even though the mystery part has been long since left out!

The newer True Blood ones just seem more like True Blood. They don't ring of the Southern Vampire novels to me. But I know a lot of people who don't really care for the whole "cartoony" covers some books have.

  16. I agree that the True Blood books have always left a bit of a shiver upon my shoulder. There's nothing really spectacular about them. Thank God HBO got hold of this series and spruced the whole thing up.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Old follower:D

  17. What a great meme this is :D I will definitely participate in it next Friday. I'm really knew to this blogging thing, and would love to connect with some other bloggers.

Also, when we are talking about covers... I really despise the new covers for the Across the Universe series. They changed it in the middle of the series from these super beautiful covers to something way less beautiful. I can't get over it and I'm not going to buy the last book (still going to read it though, cause the series is really good).
