Top Ten Tuesday: Best/Worst Movie Adaptations

This is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish where each week bloggers share a list of books for the prompt given. So hopefully I'll have a new list to share with you all each week!

This Week's Topic: Top Ten Best/Worst Movie Adaptations

Best
Hmmmm this one is so hard! I almost always love the book better, but there have been movie adaptations where I am shocked that I didn't hate it. I'm always skeptical if books can live up to the amazing writing of the book, so some of these movies are ones that turned out a lot better than I was expecting. Or loved the movie first, then read the book and realized it was just as amazing.
1. All the Harry Potter books by JK Rowling
2. The Host by Stephanie Meyer
3. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

4. Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding
5. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
6. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

Worst
Oh gosh. There's nothing worse than seeing a book you love be completely murdered on screen. I go in hoping this will be the most amazing movie ever because I just loved the characters and story in the book. But they either completely change the story or cast characters that completely ruin the movie (*cough* Miley Cyrus *cough*). I mean, burning down the Burrow in Harry Potter when that did NOT happen in the book? COMPLETELY changing Harry and Ginny's first kiss to a super awkward moment? That's so not okay. So here are some movies that really stick out in my mind as being completely awful in terms of following some books that I absolutely loved when I read them.
1. The Last Song by Nichola Sparks
2. Twilight by Stephanie Meyer
3. A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket

5. The Clique by Lisi Harrison

  1. OMG I forgot about The Perks of Being A Wallflower!! That movie was so good! Also, I agree that A Series of Unfortunate Events was HORRIBLE. It could have been so good but they just ruined it.

  2. Great list! We have a few in common. I used the whole HP series for an entry instead of separating them, but I would have to say Half Blood Prince and Prisoner of Azkaban would be the ones I thought were the worst for adaptions if I were to separate them. My TTT.

  3. I haven't seen the movie for The Host, but I'm hopeful that it's good as you included it in your best section! I won't watch HP & the Half Blood Prince because it was my least favourite book of the series, and I know a lot of people weren't a fan of the film so I saved myself the anguish, haha. Great list!

  4. I really liked the film adaptations for P&P and Bridget Jones. I also really liked Perks, but haven't read the book. I know the author adapted his own book for the screen so I'm sure it stayed pretty faithful. :) Twilight made my worst list, too. Great list!

  5. I also put The Last Song on my worst list! Just...wrong. Not just Miley but the way they changed certain things (the really bad guy, who really burned down the church, etc.) was so frustrating. Good list!

  6. Have Perks on my list too! Bridget Jones was amazing also! Great list!

  9. Bridget is on my list as well! Love that film and book, and original... :)

    Great list
Sad that you didn't like Twilight. It's sorta a guilty pleasure for me. I'm not saying I liked it... but sometimes, I do like to watch it. It is pretty bad yet entertaining.

  10. Haha! Seeing a lot of Twilight hate! I refuse to acknowledge that movie/book anymore so it doesn't even make my list! The Harry Potter movies were difficult but I definitely like the early ones! Especially number 1!

    Great picks!

    Here's my Tuesday post

    Have a GREAT day!

  11. Great list! The Host was actually really done well! I was suprised considering how horrible Twilight was botched! On a side note, I love your background!

  12. I forgot about Bridget Jones's Diary! Although, I'm not sure I would consider it (or the sequel) a good adaptation, since it wasn't that faithful to the books. (I do enjoy the movies... but I think I laughed harder when I was reading the books.)

Twilight made my "worst" list, too.

  13. I really enjoyed The Host as well! HG and HP are both on my best list. I think you might be the first I haven't seen Percy Jackson on the list and I think it is funny to see where people have put Twilight. Great list. My TTT.

  14. Jessica is The Host movie already released? You've got so many awesome movies on your list. Like you, I'm yet to find a movie that did things just as well as their printed counterpart.

  15. Awesome list! I want to see The Host, however, I haven't read the book yet. Same goes for The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I tend to try to watch the movies first since I'm sort of a bookish purist and am more forgiving if I do it this way.

I totally agree with you on The Hunger Games and Harry Potter (the series)! So amazing!

  16. Yay for Bridget! She seems to be on a lot of lists today! Also, yes for HP, THG & The Host :)
I still need to read/watch Perks! The Twilight movie sucked so bad. I cringe everytime I see a part of it. It's so awkward and the acting it awful.
    Great list :)

  17. I've got to read Perks of a Wallflower soon. I hate the movie based on Susan Coopers The Dark is Rising series--totally trashed it. Thanks for stopping by.

  18. I love Bridget Jones's Diary (book and movie)! Though the second movie was kinda stupid. I still need to see and read Perks of Being a Wallflower...bad reader. Great list!

  21. I wasn't a big fan of the book The Host, but did enjoy the movie, once I got past its cheesiness. And I totally agree with The Series of Unfortunate Events movie, I loved that series and the movie was terrible. Great list, and thanks for stopping by my Top 10!

  22. I totally agree with you about the Half-Blood Prince. Who gave them the right to burn The Burrow?!?
And yeah, the Twilight movies are the main reason for The Saga's loss of popularity!

  23. Thanks for visiting Jorie’s Reads by Starry Night Elf and commenting on my TTT. I've been wanting the see "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" as I read the book last year. I read "Bridget Jones' Diary" after I saw the movie.
