With a famous NHL player for a step-brother, Violet Hall is well acquainted with the playboy reputation many hockey stars come with. She’s smart enough to steer clear of those hot, well-built boys with unparalleled stamina. That is until she meets the legendary team captain—Alex Waters.Violet isn’t interested in his pretty, beat-up face, or his rock-hard six-pack abs. But when Alex inadvertently obliterates Violet’s previous misapprehension regarding the inferior intellect of hockey players, he becomes more than just a hot body with a face to match.
In what can only be considered a complete lapse in judgment, Violet finds out just how good Alex is with the hockey stick in his pants. But what starts out as a one-night stand, quickly turns into something more. Post-night of orgasmic magic, Alex starts to call, and text, and e-mail and send extravagant—and quirky—gifts, making him difficult to ignore, and even more difficult not to like.
The problem is, the media portrays Alex as a total player, and Violet doesn’t want to be part of the game.
This book has been on my TBR for so long and, seeing as I'm a huge sucker for a hockey romance, I finally decided to take the plunge and see if this was as amazing as it looked. And I'm happy to report, it definitely was!
Violet Hall has been there and done that with arrogant hockey players and she doesn't feel like getting her heart broken again. So, when team captain Alex Waters plays some tonsil hockey with her after one of her step brother's games, Violet doesn't want to let it go any further. But Alex isn't like other hockey players and does everything he can to show Violet that he's not a player both on and off the ice. However, the more the media shows Alex as the player, the more Violet doubts Alex's intentions…
This book was just so fun and I seriously loved every second of it. Violet was such a fun character and I loved how much she talked without even thinking, especially in situations where she was nervous. There were so many laugh out loud moments in this book, which was very refreshing. While there were some more crass moments, Violet's commentary put a lighter side to it and she said things that we all think but never admit out loud.
As a sports romance, Helena Hunting definitely did it right. There was just enough hockey to please my sports fan side while still giving me the completely irresistible hockey player when he's not on the ice. Not only was Alex incredibly hot, but he was also incredibly sweet and I loved how much he cared for Violet. Because of her past, that girl made Alex really work for her trust and it was so fun watching Violet's walls crumble to Alex's charms.
In the end, Pucked had everything I wanted and more in a sports romance. There was romance, there was comedy, and there was actual action, which was definitely refreshing because it is often lacking in many sports romances. Oh, and I absolutely loved Violet's family and their role in Violet's love life. If you want a quirky, hot sports romance with an irresistibly sweet hockey player, you definitely have to pick up Pucked.
