Dr. Russell has a bad reputation around our hospital. The scrub techs say he’s cold-blooded, the nurses say he’s too cocky for his own good, and the residents say he’s the best surgeon in the world—really, just a swell guy!—on the off chance he’s within earshot.I try to avoid him and his temper at all costs. It’s just as easy to admire his sexy, grip-it-while-he’s ravishing-you hair and chiseled jaw from a healthy distance, preferably from the other end of the hallway half-hidden behind a plant.
Unfortunately, my plan crumbles when my trusty ol’ boss decides to swap his white coat for a Hawaiian shirt. His retirement leaves me with two terrible options: switch specialties and spend months retraining, or take an open position as Dr. Russell’s surgical assistant.
That means I have to stand near him in the OR for hours on end and anticipate his every need without letting his biting words and bad attitude intimidate me. Oh, and as if that’s not difficult enough, my silly crush on him—the one I’ve tried to stomp on until it disappears—might just be reciprocated.
It’s fine.
I’m fine.
I take my job seriously. There will be no smoldering bedroom eyes across the operating table, no angry almost-kisses in the storage closet. (Well, no more of those.)
What’s the phrase? An apple a day keeps the doctor away?
Maybe I should go for a whole damn bushel.
I love when RS Grey has a new book coming out. She writes such fun rom-coms and I was so excited for this doctor and surgical assistant romance!
Dr. Russell is passionate about his job and his intensity comes off a bit arrogant. He's the best surgeon in his specialty and he doesn't have patience for people who can't keep up. Bailey is raising her younger sister while working as a surgical assistant. But when her surgeon retires, Bailey finds herself having to take a position with the last doctor she would want to: Dr. Russell. Dr. Russell does not want another incompetent assistance, but he's surprised when the headstrong, quick-witted Bailey shows up in his OR. Dr. Russell feels his walls slowly falling, somethings he's never felt before.
When I first started this book, I was all for it. I absolutely loved how serious and mean Matt was and how Bailey was the first person to really keep him on his toes. It was so fun watching Matt become fascinated with Bailey with how she impressed him and proved him wrong again and again. When this book hit about the halfway point, though, it seemed like Matt just flipped a switch and became a good and likable guy. The banter was gone and his entire demeanor just changed with the snap of a finger. I wanted more of his brooding side to stick around for the rest of the story.
From then on, the story just went along. It was very cute, but I just felt like it wasn't the story I was loving in the beginning. I did still enjoy how dedicated Bailey was to her job and to supporting her little sister. The romance did end up being super adorable, I just wanted more of the angst to continue from the beginning.
Overall, this was another nice book from RS Grey. I really want to see something completely out of RS Grey's comfort zone or something like Scoring Wilder and her Out of Bounds series, but I'm not sure we'll get that. If you want another fun rom-com, you should check out Hotshot Doc!
Sounds like a solid read. Grey is a goto for me. Her books never fail to satisfy.
ReplyDeleteI like the cover and the blurb reminded me of some tv shows. Anyway nice review
