Top Ten Tuesday: Books That Were Hard For Me to Read

This is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish where each week bloggers share a list of books for the prompt given. So hopefully I'll have a new list to share with you all each week!

This Week's Topic: Books That Were Hard for Me to Read

1. Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad
I read the entire thing in AP Lit and still have no idea what it's about.

2. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
I don't know, I just wasn't a huge fan with the way Suzanne Collins ended everything.

3. We'll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han
I loved Jeremiah SO MUCH and she had to go and ruin him :(

4. Fifty Shades Darker by EL James
Somehow, I made it through Fifty Shades of Grey, but when I picked up the second novel of the series, I couldn't handle the redundant details/phrases and lack of originality in the writing.

5. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews
I went into this one with super high expectations because I had heard some great things about it. As soon as I started, though, I really couldn't stand the main character Greg and had no emotional attachment to any of the characters.

6. Matched by Ally Condie
Again, I didn't really connect with the characters and was bored by their story. I don't think I even finished this one because I couldn't get into the novel.

7. Dear John by Nicholas Sparks
This one was hard to read, but for a good reason. It was so gosh darn emotional and I became so invested in the characters! Even though I knew what happened when watching the movie, I still cried because I just remembered how I felt during those when they were happening in the book…

8. Hopeless by Colleen Hoover
The only reason this one was hard to read was because I was so obsessed with it that I couldn't put it down. I was studying abroad in London at the time and would literally walk to class reading my Nook. It was annoying having to pay attention to where I was going while trying to read the story, but I just couldn't put it down!

WHY DID IT HAVE TO END???

10. Pride and Prejduice by Jane Austen
There's nothing like reading one of your absolute favorite novels for the first time. When it's over, though, you can never have the first-read experience ever again. I wanted this novel to last forever, but, sadly, it had to come to and end. Can't I just wipe Mr. Darcy from my memory so that I can fall for him all over again???

  1. So many people have told me to read Hopeless. I should maybe listen to them. I actually think the Mockingjay movies will be better than the book, but still, the same ending :( I liked Matched, but I never read the sequels. I will eventually. This week was a tough one for me.

  2. Great list! I cannot believe I forgot to add Heart of Darkness! I'll tell you what it's about, symbolism! So much symbolism.

  3. I saw Harry and I was like what?! What was wrong with that, but yeah, the fact that it had to come to an end was sad.

  4. Great list! Your reasons for Harry Potter being a tough read made me laugh. I've felt like that about a few books. I made it through the first 50 Shades but have zero interest in picking up the next 1. The first one was for a book club and it was fun to read and talk about but the writing was so lackluster I have no interest.

  6. There are some interesting points in time in this article but I don’t know if I see all of them center to heart. There is some validity but I will take hold opinion until I look into it further. Good article, thanks and we want more! Added to FeedBurner as well
