One Good Earl Deserves a Lover

Release Date: January 29, 2013
Source: EdelweissThe second in the incredible new Rules of Scoundrels series from New York Times bestselling author Sarah MacLean.
Lady Philippa Marbury is odd. The bespectacled, brilliant fourth daughter of the Marquess of Needham and Dolby cares more for books than balls, flora than fashion and science than the season. Nearly engaged to Lord Castleton, Pippa wants to explore the scandalous parts of London she's never seen before marriage. And she knows just who to ask: the tall, charming, quick-witted bookkeeper of The Fallen Angel, London's most notorious and coveted gaming hell, known only as Cross.
Like any good scientist, Pippa's done her research and Cross's reputation makes him perfect for her scheme. She wants science without emotion—the experience of ruination without the repercussions of ruination. And who better to provide her with the experience than this legendary man? But when this odd, unexpected female propositions Cross, it's more than tempting . . . and it will take everything he has to resist following his instincts—and giving the lady precisely what she wants.
Pippa is completely inexperienced when it comes to the opposite sex, so with her wedding fast approaching, Pippa allows her inner scientist to come out and research the art of relationships. And who better to inform her about the male species than the most notorious lover in town, the book-keeper of The Fallen Angel, Cross. One look at the fiery Pippa and Cross is a goner. He adamantly refuses to show Pippa what she most desires to learn, but can he resist such a determined woman who just can't seem to leave his mind?
Like i said, the beginning of this book is very slow going. Pippa wants to learn the "science" behind being with a man, but she wants to learn it from someone who is well versed in that area, which she has come to learn is Cross. So the beginning of the novel is just this huge game of Pippa demanding he teach her and Cross rejecting her. When the plot finally changes course, which is well into the novel, things finally start moving and the story becomes so much more interesting. Cross is such a yummy man and I love how he sees Pippa's quirkiness as an irresistible quality. Pippa is so open, vulnerable, and nerdy that you just can't help but love her as well. No matter how jealous you may be that she gets Cross, she's one character who definitely deserves him.
So overall, if you can get over the beginning, you'll love this book. I've read so many historical romances and it's nice to have one with a plot that hasn't been done before (at least that I haven't read before). Pippa's scientific nature is so quirky and it's a quality that I think really makes the book. If you're up for unique historical romance with passion and temptation, I'd definitely recommend picking this one up!
