Summary: In a parallel universe, the classic bad boy falls for the class science geek. One minute Danny was running from the cops, and the next, he jolted awake in an unfamiliar body - his own, but different. Somehow, he's crossed into a parallel universe. Now his friends are his enemies, his parents are long dead, and studious Eevee is not the mysterious femme fatale he once kissed back home. Then again, this Eevee - a girl who'd rather land an internship at NASA than a date to the prom--may be his only hope of getting home.
Eevee tells herself she's only helping him in the name of quantum physics, but there's something undeniably fascinating about this boy from another dimension... a boy who makes her question who she is, and who she might be in another place and time.
Review: I normally don't read a lot of sci-fi, but I could not resist a romance that reached across parallel universes. How can you be with the one you love when they don't even live in your reality?
Jerked out of his own body as he's being chased by cops, Danny finds himself in a world he's never known, yet in the body exactly like his own. Without knowing it, Danny has jumped into a parallel universe that is nothing like the Phoenix he knows. No one is the same as they are in his old world, especially Eevee, the girl he runs to for help. In this new world, she isn't a mysterious, alluring woman, but rather a smart and funny girl who may be his only chance of going home. But when he grows closer with Eevee and finds himself falling for her, Danny isn't so sure he wants to go back to his universe after all.
Wow, from the start this book was full of action, mystery, and a whole lot of science. Sometimes the science talk went a little over my head, but I loved how gosh darn smart Eevee is. Eevee and her best friend Warren are pretty much geniuses, so they're the perfect people for Danny to go to for help when he finds himself in a world that's the same as his own but way different. I loved how the Danny in Eevee's world is someone she would never, ever talk to, but once he's the Danny from the parallel universe, she can't stop thinking about it. What a romance story. I do wish we got to see what was happening with the real Danny from Eevee's universe, but I did really love the Danny from the other universe, so I guess it didn't really matter.
I wasn't a big fan of how some of the story was lost in their science talk and super smart conversations. Also, the way Danny and Eevee officially got together seemed a bit rushed, but other than that, I really enjoyed this unique story. There was so much fear that Danny could bounce back to his world at any moment, so there was some suspense over that and what was going on in Danny's home universe where he was being chased by cops. There was definitely an added a sense of mystery to this sci-fi romance.
In the end, I thought this was a unique story that could have done a bit better on the romance aspect, but was still a very enjoyable read. If you want a fun sci-fi YA romance, you should check out Now That You're Here!
This book sounds so good! Reminds me a lot of Fair Co in by E. C. Meyers but still awesome :)! I love science fiction so I'd love this book... good review :D!
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to read this book for awhile! I have a bit of an obsession with parallel universes! Anyway, great review! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteVery mind-bendy! I've always been fascinated by the possibility behind multiple dimensions, and this book explores the science behind that theory while giving us a heaping dose of romance...which I also love! I wonder if a "me" in another dimension just finished reading "alternate Amy's" book. ;)
