The last time I saw my
best friend’s younger brother, he was a geek wearing braces. But when Cannon
shows up to crash in my spare room, I get a swift reality check.
Now twenty-four, he’s
broad shouldered and masculine, and so sinfully sexy, I want to climb him like
the jungle gyms we used to enjoy. At six-foot-something with lean muscles
hiding under his T-shirt, a deep sexy voice, and full lips that pull into a
smirk when he studies me, he’s pure temptation.
Fresh out of a messy
breakup, he doesn’t want any entanglements. But I can resist, right?
I’m holding strong
until the third night of our new arrangement when we get drunk and he confesses
his biggest secret of all: he’s cursed when it comes to sex. Apparently he’s a
god in bed, and women instantly fall in love with him.
I’m calling bullshit.
In fact, I’m going to prove him wrong, and if I rack up a few much-needed
orgasms in the process, all the better.
There’s no way I’m
going to fall in love with Cannon. But once we start…I realize betting against
him may have been the biggest mistake of my life.
Who doesn't love a friends to lovers romance story? Especially when the "friend" happens to be the main character's best friend's little brother? Needless to say, I was super excited to read this!
Paige is content with her life, but now that she's pushing 30, she has to face the fact that she's still single and living with her dog. When she's sees a hot guy walking outside of her apartment, Paige is aware of the immediate attraction she has for him. But when he walks up to her door and she realizes that he's Cannon, her best friend's geeky little brother who isn't so geeky anymore, Paige knows she's in trouble. Cannon has always put others before himself and is almost finished with med school. He's always had a crush on his sister's best friend and when he needs a place to stay after his ex went psycho, he isn't so sure Paige's place is the best to stay. As the two grow closer, though, they find it harder to resist their inexplicable attraction.
From the beginning, I really enjoyed Cannon's character and how dedicated he was to becoming a doctor. I thought it was a bit drastic how he was some geeky teenager who transformed into some sort of sex god in college (the way they describe how he was in the past didn't connect to how he was portrayed now), but I loved how he challenged Paige and toyed with her attraction to him. There was so much build up in their chemistry that it was pretty much bursting out of the pages before they finally let themselves act upon it.
Of course, with this kind of forbidden romance, the fact that they didn't want to act on their attraction because of Cannon's sister made their attraction that much stronger and harder to resist. It was so funny how they tried to hide their attraction. And since they were living together, it was impossible to avoid each other, so they became friends and started to fall for each other even more.
Overall, this was a cute and fun read about two people who didn't want to fall for each other. Cannon was so sweet and I could tell why girls kept on falling for him the way they did in his past. There were some more emotional moments mixed with the fun, which balanced the story well. If you want a fun romance, definitely check out The Room Mate!
