How to kick off a great summer in the Hamptons:
Snag a gorgeous rental on the beach. Check.
Get a job at a trendy summer haunt. Check.
How to screw up a great summer in the Hamptons:
Fall for the one guy with a dark leather jacket, scruff on his face, and intense eyes that doesn’t fit in with the rest of the tony looking crowd. A guy you can’t have when you’ll be leaving at the end of the season.
Check. Check. Check.
I should add—especially when the guy is your sexy, tattooed God of a boss.
Especially when he not only owns your place of employment but inherited half of the town.
Especially when he’s mean to you.
Or so I thought.
Until one night when he demanded I get in his car so he could drive me home because he didn’t want me walking in the dark.
That was sort of how it all started with Rush.
And then little by little, some of the walls of this hardass man started to come down.
I never expected that the two of us, seemingly opposites from the outside, would grow so close.
I wasn't supposed to fall for the rebel heir, especially when he made it clear he didn’t want to cross the line with me.
As the temperature turned cooler, the nights became hotter. My summer became a lot more interesting—and complicated.
All good things must come to an end, right?
Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Rebel Heir is the first book in the Rush Series Duet. Book Two, Rebel Heart, will release six weeks later on May, 22, 2018.

Book Review: Gods and Monsters by Saffron A Kent

Gods and Monsters
by Saffron A Kent
Release Date: February 22, 2018
Source: Author
He was an artist. She was his muse.

To everyone in town, Abel Adams was the devil's spawn, a boy who never should have been born. A monster.

To twelve year-old Evie Hart, he was just a boy with golden hair, soft t-shirts and a camera. A boy who loved taking her picture and sneaking her chocolates before dinner. A boy who made her feel special.

Despite her family's warnings, she loved him in secret for six years. They met in empty classrooms and kissed in darkened church closets. Until they couldn't.

Until the time came to choose between love and family, and Evie chose Abel.

Because their love was worth the risk. Their love was the stuff of legend.

But the thing about legends is that they are cautionary tales. They are made of choices and mistakes. And for Abel and Evie, the artist and the muse, those mistakes come in the form of lights, camera, sex.

Even after some time has passed since I finished this book, I am still so conflicted over my feelings about this book. I was excited to read this forbidden romance from Saffron Kent, but it took a turn I definitely wasn't expecting.

The moment Evie Hart sees Abel Adams get out of the truck at the house next door, she's enthralled. She can't stop thinking about the boy who is blonde and beautiful. She soon learns, though, that he is the result of a scandal that rocked the town years ago that no one has forgotten. But Evie finds herself drawn to Abel even more and the two are led down a path neither of them can leave.

Starting out this book, I was sucked in. This town is super small and felt almost like a cult where they all disapproved of Abel, especially Evie's mom. Of course I loved the forbidden romance, but as soon as we got to the middle of the story when Evie and Abel were older, things took a turn that I was definitely NOT expecting. And I wasn't sure how I felt about it. I started to become really annoyed with Evie and Abel over the reasons behind their decision. I get that they were still pretty young and didn't really know any better, but I hated the reasons why they chose to do certain things they did.

As the story went on, the tone of the story changed drastically and it was hard for me to finish the book. Like I said, I was annoyed with the reasons behind how the characters were acting and it was obvious that some characters were keeping secrets. It was frustrating how naive Evie was and I wanted her to wake up and see what was going on right in front of her eyes.

If you can't tell, this book ended up being a frustrating read for me. While the characters kind of redeemed themselves for me by the end, I still could not forget how annoyed I was for a good majority of this book. I loved the beginning of this book when Abel and Evie were falling for each other, but it felt like an entirely different book when the halfway mark hit.

Book Review: One Last Time by Corinne Michaels

One Last Time
by Corinne Michaels
Release Date: February 26, 2017
Source: Author
From New York Times bestselling author, Corinne Michaels, comes a new heartwarming standalone romance.

I’m getting really good at cutting my losses.

First, the husband. Divorcing him was the best decision I ever made. But between single-parenting and job-hunting, I can’t catch my breath. When a celebrity blogging position falls into my lap, I’m determined to succeed.

That is, until I get my first assignment and actually see Noah Frazier for the first time . . . practically naked and dripping wet. My heart races and I forget how to form complete sentences. His chiseled abs, irresistible smirk, and crystal blue eyes are too perfect to be real. So, what do I do? Get drunk and humiliate myself, of course.

I’m ready to forget the awkward night, yet Noah has no intention of allowing me to move on. Instead, he arranges for me to write a feature on him, ensuring a lot more time together. One embarrassing moment after another, one kiss after another, and before I can stop myself, I realize—I’m falling in love with him.

But when the unthinkable happens, can I even blame him for cutting his losses?

What I wouldn’t give for just one last time . . .

I absolutely adore Corinne Michaels' Return to Me series, so you bet I couldn't wait to pick this book up. I love the cover of this one and I couldn't wait to see a celebrity blogger fall for one of her stories.

After divorcing her husband, Kristin is in a whole new world where she's finally rediscovering herself. That means, though, working a new job as a celebrity blogger while juggling her kids and her nasty ex-husband. So when she humiliates herself by getting drunk during her first interview with a very gorgeous and charming actor, who just so happens to be her best friend's husband's best friend, Kristin doesn't know how she'll recover. Her answer is to hide and forget it ever happened, but Noah is intrigued by Kristin and doesn't plan on letting her go anytime soon.

Right when this book started, I was a little annoyed with the relationship between Kristin and her soon to be ex-husband. The beginning seemed rushed and *wham* her ex was suddenly the stereotypical nasty guy who was annoying about what weekends he got the kids, who got what, and paying child support. It was a little too over-the-top and cliched for my taste. Then, when Kristin meets Noah, their relationship goes from zero to love in no time and I really didn't feel any build up.

I think that since I loved Say You'll Stay by Corinne Michaels so much, I had super high expectations for this one. I still enjoyed the story and how close Kristin was with her friends, but I feel like all of her friends fell into stereotypical categories and I couldn't find myself connecting with them or Kristin as much as I wanted to.

Overall, this was just an okay read to me. I wish there were more unique characters and a less rushed storyline with a more believable relationship. I still want to read the first book in this series and the next ones to come, this just wasn't my favorite.

Book Review: What He Always Knew by Kandi Steiner

What He Always Knew (What He Doesn't Know Duet #2)
by Kandi Steiner
Release Date: March 29, 2018
Source: Author
Left or right.

It’s that simple, and it isn’t simple at all.

If I turn left, the road will lead me back to the man I promised my life to, the one I’d imagined building a family with, the one who’s done everything in his power to get me back.

If I turn right, the road will take me to the man I loved first, the man who brought me back to life, the man who would do anything to keep me.

I knew the fork in the road was inevitable; it was the decision I never wanted to make between choices I didn't know I had.

And I love them both.

My heart is destined to exist in two equal halves — one with each man. But one half beats stronger, the vein running deepest, and holds my choice in silence long before I know it for myself.

The realization of what I have to do, of the heart I have to break, just might break mine too.

Left or right.

All I have to do is take a breath and turn.

After finishing What He Doesn't Know, I was dying to get my hands on the final book in this duet. I had no idea who Charlie was going to pick, but I definitely had a favorite. As soon as I started this book, though, all of my previous opinions flew out the window and I was an emotional mess.

Reese or Cameron? The boy she's always loved or the man she's promised her life to? Charlie doesn't know who she is or even who she wants to be in the future, all she knows is that she has to decide. But choosing one path will break hearts and choose a destiny she can't take back.

When I read the first book in this duet, I felt like I was missing the angst everyone was raving about with these books. Nothing felt angsty to me and I felt like there was an obvious choice Charlie had to make. Um, yeah, I was SO WRONG. This book hit me so hard with the angst and I was on the verge of tears so many times. While love triangles are taboo in the book world now, the triangle in this book was done so well that I didn't even know who I wanted Charlie to choose. Seriously, I was going to be mad at her no matter which one she chose because we got to see into each of the men's minds and really fall for each of them.

Since our characters are older (in their 30s), I appreciated how mature the romance was and how the characters didn't think in the moment like a lot of young romance protagonists do. These characters have lived lives, experienced loss, and made some hard decisions that affected not only them, but everyone around them. I was hooked on Charlie's story and had no idea how she could make any decision. There were moments I gasped, moments I had tears in my eyes, and moments where I was swooning over something both men did. To say this was an emotional rollercoaster would be an understatement.

If you haven't picked up this duet yet, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? This book takes a hard look at what it means to truly love someone and give yourself over to them. And, just like life, there is so much gray that it's impossible to know what's right or wrong, what you should do and what you shouldn't do. Kandi Steiner gets romance and she takes no reservations when it comes to ripping out your heart and putting it back together again.

Book Review: Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan

Long Shot (Hoops #1)
by Kennedy Ryan
Release Date: March 22, 2018

A Standalone FORBIDDEN LOVE SET IN THE EXPLOSIVE WORLD OF THE NBA...

Think you know what it's like being a baller's girl?
You don't.
My fairy tale is upside down.
A happily never after.
I kissed the prince and he turned into a fraud.
I was a fool, and his love - fool's gold.

Now there's a new player in the game, August West.
One of the NBA's brightest stars.
Fine. Forbidden.
He wants me. I want him.
But my past, my fraudulent prince, just won't let me go.

As you guys may know, I'm a HUGE sports romance fan, so when I heard about this basketball romance coming from Kennedy Ryan, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Little did I know, this would be SO MUCH more than a sports romance and it would be AMAZING.

The moment August laid eyes on Iris, he couldn't ignore the instant attraction. The chemistry. The feeling like they'd known each other their whole lives and were meant to be. Too bad she was someone else's girl.

Holy moly. This book. Wow. I was in love with this story from the first page, but it turned serious very quickly and I was still hooked. I will say there is domestic abuse in this story, so go in knowing that. What these characters go through is heartbreaking and I was SO IN LOVE with August. Seriously, he was one of the sweetest, most perfect heroes I've read about in awhile. It was so sad watching him love Iris and having no idea why he couldn't have her.

Honestly, there isn't much more I can say without spoiling this story. I loved all of the characters that were in Iris's life and how, even though a lot of time passes throughout this story, the pacing was perfect and we got to see the characters grow and change with life. I couldn't get enough of these characters and am so excited that this is a series!

If you've been hearing hype about this book, trust me, it is so well deserved. The romance will break your heart and make you swoon all within the pages of this book. I can't recommend Long Shot enough!

Book Review: Murder Notes by Lisa Renee Jones

Murder Notes (Lilah Love #1)
by Lisa Rene Jones
Release Date: March 27, 2018
Source: Publisher
New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones’s heart-pounding thriller of a woman’s secrets—and a past that’s about to come out of hiding…

As an FBI profiler, it’s Lilah Love’s job to think like a killer. And she is very good at her job. When a series of murders surface—the victims all stripped naked and shot in the head—Lilah’s instincts tell her it’s the work of an assassin, not a serial killer. But when the case takes her back to her hometown in the Hamptons and a mysterious but unmistakable connection to her own life, all her assumptions are shaken to the core.

Thrust into a troubled past she’s tried to shut the door on, Lilah’s back in the town where her father is mayor, her brother is police chief, and she has an intimate history with the local crime lord’s son, Kane Mendez. The two share a devastating secret, and only Kane understands Lilah’s own darkest impulses. As more corpses surface, so does a series of anonymous notes to Lilah, threatening to expose her. Is the killer someone in her own circle? And is she the next target?

I am a huge fan of murder mysteries and detective stories, but for some reason I never read them. When I had the chance to read Murder Notes, it sounded like it was going to be an intriguing, action-packed thriller and I couldn't wait to read it.

Lilah Love is trained to get into the minds of killers and track them down. That's why she's so good at being an FBI agent. But when a series of murders link back to her past and her hometown, Lilah knows she has to go back home and investigate. She is certain the person they're looking for is an assassin, not a serial killer, but she has to return to the Hamptons and dig into the people of her past to know for sure. Lilah is forced to confront the secret she holds with Kane Mendez, the son of a crime lord, while trying to figure out who she can trust now and who could be the very person she is looking for.

How is this book labeled a thriller? Because not a single page in this book was thrilling. When the book first started and Lilah was at the crime scene examining the newest dead body, I was so ready for this story. I couldn't wait for Lilah to investigate and uncover the killer. But when she arrived at the Hamptons, NOTHING HAPPENED. So much of this book was literally Lilah sitting in her office or sitting a a diner thinking. Her big, dark secret from the past was beat over our heads and I was so annoyed when we were never told what really happened or why until very late in the book. I felt like it was being used as a crutch to keep our interest and it just got annoying.

Also, when Lilah arrived in the Hamptons, there were so many characters thrown at us that Lilah was thinking about and they were so hard to keep straight. I feel like we really only got a surface level impression of them, too, because we really only got to know people based on what Lilah thought about them and how she categorized them in her investigation. And I don't know if I missed something, but I am still so clueless about the investigation and who could have even done it or anyone's connection to it. I felt no intrigue towards this story and I honestly didn't even care about who was even behind the murders by the end.

If you can't tell, this one was a huge miss for me. I had such high expectations going in and I found a story that was boring and lacked any action. While I haven't read that many thrillers, this one just didn't seem thrilling and lost my interest in the end.
